I'm going into my junior year of college and I am considering when to take the DAT. I would like to apply for the next years cycle (not this current one). Should I take it 90 days ahead of June 1 so that if I need to I can retake it? is this what people typically do? I have taken all my pre-reqs.

I'm applying next cycle as well. I started studying for the DAT this week while I have no school during the summer. Why not start studying sometime this summer? That way you don't have to worry about classes.

If I were you, I would take it soon. If you have finished the prereqs, I would take the DAT while those are fresh in your mind. Personally, I would study for a couple months then get it out of the way. Just my opinion... Good Luck!

I am doing the samething, taking the DAT this summer for next cycle.mi really do not want the stress of shadowing, volunteering, application, ect. This way I will have my score and can focus on the other pains of trying to get into dental school

I like the idea of giving yourself more time studying but for me the reality is, the further I get away from subjects, the less I remember. I am taking the DAT in August and I have all but forgotten Gen Chem. I feel as though that is going be like learning anew than reviewing. Meanwhile Orgo was just finished in the spring so most of it is fresh.
I'm taking a summer course that finishes 8 weeks before the exam. I am trying to figure out an 8 week study plan for myself that includes more time with math and gen chem.
Good luck with what you decide but don't take it early for the sole reason of retake, rather take it because you know you are surely ready to kill it.

Here's what I did...as soon as I finished my dat pre-requisites (sophomore year summer)I have the dat. My logic was that if I don't do well I will have another summer to try again & still be on time for applications.

So I suggest you take it now since you are done with pre-requisites
