For those of you taking the PCAT, I know how stressful it is!!! I took it September and scored a composite 88. I'll let you know exactly how I prepared for it. First, I started preparing about 2 months beforehand by buying the Kaplan book and doing a little reading and answering the book questions every day. if I was unfamiliar with some of the content, I went back to some of my old math, chem, and bio notes/books from old classes that
I took and brushed up on some of the material. I did this for about a month and a half, roughly 20-30 pages a day. The huge key is taking as many practice tests as you can, not so much for the material but to get accustomed to the time......I guarantee you that if you do not practice the reading comprehension and the math you will do poorly!!! You can't solve every math problem to the final answer, you will not have time......skip every question that is difficult and answer the easier ones first........then go back and do the ones you can and then guess.......the time goes by extremely quick.......for the reading comprehension you need to practice reading quickly, get a feel for the three paragraphs and then answer the 6-7 questions that follow. I dazed off for a few minutes while I was reading the first topic and then had to reread the material and lost a lot of time....then I got in panic mode and did not do well....I got a 48 on that section....(pissed me off actually). If I was going to redo it, I would definitely practice those more! I earned a 95 in biology, a 93 in chem, a 84 in math, and a 74 in verbal......came out to a composite 88. I also bought 2 practice PCAT tests for the site and they also helped. By the way, Kaplan book also comes with a online practice test that is also very similar to the real test. You should not expect to do well if you cram......just do a little every day and hit the practice tests hard for 2 weeks before the exam. You will know what I mean about the time constraints, just takes practice. Hope that this helps anyone that had questions about how to prepare for the PCAT.
