Hello 🙂

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to word the search correctly.

I am planning on taking the exam in June, but haven't had a chance to study and have been out of school for a couple of years. I was planning on taking it the first time to see where I am at, and then retake the exam in Oct.

What effect does taking the exam twice have on your chances of getting into school?

Are scores averaged? Is it frowned upon to take the exam more than once?

Do schools see every score, or just the ones I send to them?

Any information or experiences on this topic would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! 😀

If you are serious about taking the PCAT and attending professional school you should be able to answer these questions on your own with basic internet search and by reading this board. All of the information you are requesting is easily searchable and available with minimal effort on your part. The fact that you can't suggest that you should really reconsider going to pharmacy school.

Wow! Aren't you helpful 🙄
It is faster and easier to ask the people with the information.
FYI - managed to make it through med school with flying colors, I'm quite certain pharm would be no problem. The info is for my sister.

Thanks so much!

Wow, that was unnecessary. He/she shouldn't go to pharmacy school because of that?

Anyway, while I would say medical school and pharmacy school are two different things, that doesn't matter. I haven't taken the PCAT myself so I do not know if they will average. However, with good stats I wouldn't see anything to worry about. It's not the same as the GPA. It should be admirable to retake and improve upon scores. Hope you get some facts.

Well then my response applies to your sister. Will you be taking her classes for her as well?

First of all, don't listen to people that immediately give you a hard time about asking a question thats been asked many times. It's easier to make a post than to use the crappy search option. Anyone who wants to complain can waste their energy on trying to bust you out. Just overlook it.

I think it definitely depends on the school. I did what you are talking about doing, taking it even though I wasn't ready. I took the PCAT three times, and didn't get a good score two of the three times. I was accepted into pharmacy school for the fall with a 76 on the PCAT, so in my experience, I was not penalized for taking it multiple times. I actually benefited from it.

You should try and figure out the policies of each of the schools you want to go to. That would let you know for sure if it was okay or not.

Get off of it, it doesn't matter. Who appointed you to patrol the boards and give people a hard time anyway?

Jake, why dont you just go jerk off?

I think the reason so many of us get such high scores on the pcat are because of the droves of people taking it early to get a look at it or try their luck. If you take it once and bomb, then you put yourself in the position of having to retake it in order to be competitive.

Depending on where you sit right now, my advice is to take the pcat when you are READY to take the pcat. This means you have already taken all of the courses that the pcat will cover and understood what you learned. There is no shortcut. If you do this, you shouldn't find yourself too nervous about re-studying or purchasing pcat classes before taking it as it's all stuff you already know. They teach you nothing new!

I live in Arizona and UA and Midwestern both only look at your top PCAT score. They don't average all your PCAT test scores but will post your previous composite score on your new transcript. I took the PCAT in January as a warm-up so that this June test will have the unknowns out of the way, and while I only got a 76 on that one, I expect a much higher score this time around. I recommend taking it now, then again in October if necessary.

Thank You to all those that posted helpful replies, I appreciate all the help!

Hi Jake 🙄

I hope you are as good looking as you seem to believe, as your personality must surely be lacking
Feel free to continue with the attitude; I've plenty of my own 😉

I think she can quite handle the classes on her own, but thank you for the concern. . . Will you be having someone with bedside manners deal with patients for you?

Slangindempillz -

Mind if I ask where you are going to be going to school? Thanks 🙂
