Unfortunately I took a university course whole on grade 12 (4 years ago) and I did poorly (C+). My university didn't take that as a credit but for medical school I need to submit thy transcript as well...

I'm wondering should I talk about this in my PS? Also in my first year I ended up dropping 3 courses out of 10...so had only 7 courses that year instead of having 10. Should I also discuss this in my PS?

Dont mention it in the PS unless it was some character-defining moment... the PS is the place to make yourself look wonderful... it's when you sell yourself to the Adcom. Your writing needs to express the values and qualities you possess that are most important to you. Generally, the statement has 2 themes running simultaneously - 1) why you want to be a physician/your motivation, and 2) you need to demonstrate the characteristics that qualify you for the profession.

That being said, if Adcom has a question about anything on the transcript, they will ask you. Then you can offer whatever explanation you have.

Oh WOW! thanks for the advice! I thought that because some schools screen their primaries that I should explain some "abnormalities" in my application.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it 🙂

I know you already got your answer, but I cannot emphasize enough that NOTHING negative should go in your personal statement unless you significantly grew from it. So much so, that it turns it into a positive.

FWIW, if you do have something glaringly bad (not a C+, but maybe a DUI, etc.), the time to address it is in the secondaries when they ask if you have anything else to add, extenuating circumstances, explain any violations or disciplinary issues.

Thank you. I really appreciate your post! The process of writing my PS is quite daunting and I keep reading posts about writing it to gets tips.

Youre welcome. I'm sure your personal statement will be fine. Just keep the negatives out because they don't define you. Good luck!
