hi everyone,
i was just wondering if anyone did a masters that was non science related while applying for dental school (finish masters may 2009, apply for fall 2009 dental matriculation). my stats are not bad so its not like i need the masters to help my application. 3.67 overall, 3.59 sci, 3.55 bcp, tons of dental research, publications, shadowing, and 22,21,20 TS,AA,PAT. i was hoping to do a masters in operations research while still doing dental research. would the masters hurt me? as in, it might seem like i am straying away from dentistry?
btw, operations research is a field in applied math and statistics that i guess you can say is about improving processes through math. any input would be much appreciated. 🙂
thanks

I am doing a 12-month masters right now in innovation management - I applied for this program last year, once I realized that I would probably have to reapply. I don't know how operations management can help you in dentistry; however, if you can find an angle, I think you should use it. I rewrote my personal statement last May to demonstrate how my Masters in management would actually help me to achieve my end goal - being an owner of a succesful dentist practice. Also, I think if you're really interested in something it can't hurt - it at least shows dedication.
