Hi guys,

Well normally my threads on here are for the most part optmistic, today unfortunately, its not going to be!

First off, I just met with my pre-dental advisor to give him a little update on how i have been, etc. You all know the drill, bascially just chekcing in so he will write a good rec letter. Well, I gave him my ADSAS form to write a letter and i just feel like he doesnt have the will or care about writing a good letter, which bothered me, since you have to get a letter from the health committee. It just makes me mad because you let them know you put all this work into getting into school, and it seems like they could give two hoots.

Then, my day persisted to get worse. I have been volunteering in a research lab for over a year now, and granted not that i loved it by any means, but they dont have enough room in there now for me to be volunteering, and they said they might be able to let me back into the lab in march or april. So now, i have no research opp. either. I was thinking I could try to get into anbother lab, but last year when i tried, it took me over 3 months to get hired/allowed to volunteer since i am an undergrad. Do you guys think i am going to have to find somewhere else? Or do you tihnk that since i have volunteered already that will be "enough" for my apps?

Alright, its only 3pm, so maybe ill get lucky and my day will turn around! Cant wait to hear back from you guys with some advice!

Well, I think any research i s good start to mkaing a great app. When I was interviewing back in November, I met NOBODY who had done any research. I've never done any and I haven't done a lot of shadowing either, but I got in to my first choice. I think you're gonna be alright.

Just make sure your other references are from people who can write some great stuff about you. Besides, I've never actually heard of a committee writing a bad letter. After all, they want their students to get into grad programs - it makes them look good! 😀 They write about a million of those things every year and it prolly gets a little old, so you can't expect 'em to be too enthusiastic.

Anyhow, keep up your grades and do well on the DAT. The things that you're worrying about definitely aren't gonn keep you out of dental school. Maybe try to get back into the research in the spring like they said and before you know it you'll be Dr. Jmac, DDS . 😉

Hi Jmac,

I hope things are better for u now. Yeah, if research doesn't work out for you, try volunteer at a local dental clinic or office, that counts a lot too. Dental experience helps in dental school, research is good but it's not gonna be a big deal in the end. My classmates who got accepted to ucsf have no research experience whatsoever, so don't fret about it
