Hey everyone,

I did pretty bad in most of my undergrad science courses, and it wasn't until like senior year that I did a little better, and then improved more with community college science courses after I graduated. Then in my Masters program I got a 3.9.

I was wondering if in the secondary apps where there is a section for "other", I should put a brief description explaining my mediocre GPA early on. I want to talk about how I didn't apply myself fully, and how I put more weight on volunteer and extracurriculars than I did on my actual grades. Then I can talk about my recent classes of doing way better, including my masters, and even improving my DAT drastically from the first time. I want to end it by saying that I am fully confident in my ability to handle the rigorous curriculum of dental school.

Is this an ok idea or should I not be so upfront?

You gotta give a bit more info on the context of that "other" section, like if they were asking about your grades and "other" was meant to be as other reasons for your performance or something.

If it is appropriate for that section then I would write a grade explanation, and yes you should be upfront and get straight to the point.

From the few secondaries I have seen so far, there is an "other" section where it says I can talk about anything. The examples they give are:

1. Things that may be confusing in your application
2. Bad grades
3. Anything else

alright good, then it is appropriate for you to write an explanation of your bad grades.
