Talking about family ties/legacy in a secondary?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I definitely think it is! Schools generally want to know why you want to attend their school, and if family ties are one of the reasons, then you should definitely address it in the secondary.

I thought the story was interesting and it got my attention. Some schools give "points" for legacy, and others don't care. Including the essay won't hurt you.

I think it could be great, but you'll have to walk a thin line between what is an amazing story, and simply trying to float the idea that you deserve an insider's chance because of it. I'm sure you'll be fine and it'll be great, just wanted to give the heads up warning.

I think most "medical legacies" are a bunch of crap and many people use them wrongly. Yours actually sounds a little compelling, so I would say go for it.

I would definitely say go for it if it's a state school and you're out of state. You want them to know what your specific ties are to the state and the school, and it sounds like yours are pretty solid.

Yes definitely I'd use it. One additional reason not mentioned above is that many schools want to know why you're interested in their school particularly, your story answers the question!

thank you for all the great advice!
yeah, my concern was that focusing too much on legacy would be sort of a cop-out.
luckily, i'm actually undergrad at this school, so i have other reasons to want to go. yayy sdn for helping me out yet again

Nice.. seems like a very legit. relationship with the school, even if it's intangible. 👍👍
