Talking about gap year EC’s in interviews?

I’m not a non-trad but wasn’t premed early in my college career and as a result most of my EC’s were some pretty cool public health stuff, which I have to believe is the only reason I got a T20 interview because the rest of my app is pretty average and lacking research (which is obviously huge for T20’s). However, since setting on medicine I’ve done pretty generic stuff like scribing, because I like it and want to show my interest in medicine. In interviews how should I explain why my recent activities have been more standard than my earlier ones? Will this come up?

It might come up. It might not. I suggest focusing on how awesome you are, because top 20s don’t give interviews for a couple “cool” ECs. Look over your entire app and go to the interview confident that you belong there, because you do.
