Talking to a Neurosurgeon On Call over the Phone

Is this wise? It would be great if I could talk to him and ask him some questions about being a neurosurgeon.

This would not turn out well.
Don't cold-call a doctor and start asking them questions... just because they are on call doesn't mean they are there to take any and all phone calls. During the day they are either in the office or in the OR but still responsible to handle patient issues or new admissions from the ED. In the evening or night they're at home; possibly sleeping. They put up with me waking them up because I call them for hospital business. But you wouldn't be.

If you want to ask a neurosurgeon questions about their job, start by talking with an office manager for a NSG office, see if they can set up a few minutes for you to come by the office and talk with them; perhaps during a lunch break.
