Hey everyone, I am taking my DAT in about two weeks and have always had this problem of talking to myself while I study as I work through problems out loud. I have tried to consciously shut myself up and find them I am doing much worse on practice tests (about a 10% difference in scores) than if I talk myself through problems.

I was wondering if any of you guys were having the same problem... for those who have taken the DAT - is this okay to do in the testing center? If we were in the same testing center, and I was sitting next to you mumbling incessantly would you slap me upside the head? 😛

LOL!!! omg i DO THIS TOO!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!!!!! Thank God for you! bahahaha, and yea i wonder the same thing!! i feel like talking myself through it, even if its quietly helps me not be so anxious and helps me understand better. i DONT KNOW WHY, but i feel like i do better when i talk to myself outloud too!! i havnt tried not talking to myself while practicing...bc i figure if i cant stop myself and im going to end up talking to myself regardless during the test, ill just mouth it and hope that im not too loud, and i really dont care if the person next to me gets annoyed!! if it helps me then damn im not gonna stop! its not like im loud or obnoxious about it like i dont scream for joy when i figure out the answer or anything .....
i may have a problem during reading comp.....damn fml

LOL I do the same thing sometimes too. But I highly recommend that you DON'T do that during the DAT because there will be other people who are taking other exams and I am sure they will be upset. Because as for me, I can't really focus when there's too much background noise. lol

Ha I do the same thing too. I actually caught myself talking to myself and reasoning my way through some answers during the actual DAT. I don't think that if you keep it pretty low anyone will care. They pretty much all have the huge noise canceling headphones on anyway.

I would slap you upside the head. . . but it would be out of love.
