Any of you current DVM students tape record lectures?? If so, do you find it really helpful come exam time; are most professors open to this practice?

I don't, but we do have a couple that tape record and no teachers have any problems with it. Sometimes they'll post them on our "shared" drive so that everyone can access it and then it helps everyone around test time if you've got the time to listen again. We even had one teacher record his powerpoint (both voice and presentation) and sent it to us so we could sit through it again if we wanted.

There are several people in our class who record lectures. Most lecturers are fine with it.

I don't know how much the recordings are actually used after the fact, but it looks hardcore at the time 😉

Most professors don't mind but a few do so you should always ask.

I also doubt how useful this is for studying. I think it's much more efficient to review notes, handouts and other material rather than sitting through the whole lecture again. Some people plan on listening to the tape while driving, exercising and so on, but they usually don't.

thanks for the input everyone!

I use a voice recorder... I never planned on being able to re-listen to every lecture, but use it when I get to a point in my notes that made sense when the professor was explaining it, but looks completely foreign as I'm reviewing. I also use it for take-home exams (open-book, open-note exams, of course), since profs seem to love throwing out examples during class that they then use for the exams. It also really helps kick-start studying if I'm having a hard time getting focused before an exam... It's a little more passive to just start listening to a lecture while I surf the internet than it is to actually crack open my notes 🙂
