how do pharmacists float within these companies? there are like only few of them in a city. do you have to drive like 50 miles each day to float? hows job perspective if you were to be an intern with them during school years? I guess one good thing about big 3 chains is that they are everywhere and you could easily pick up extra shifts if you wish to. Just wanna know if it would be worth it to work for target, walmart or any other big box chains during school and get a job with them afterwards.

Not everyone wants to pick up extra shifts. In fact, it is a minority for rphs to pick up extra shifts. About 90% are happy working just 40h. Those who want extra money are normally singles with no family or have a goal in mind (for me to save up a mil, others to pay off loan, buy toys, etc...)
 
You'll be driving to other stores, but you should be reimbursed for your mileage. I get great mpg (plus gas prices are really low now) so the reimbursement for mileage is far better than what you're actually spending on gas.
