Tattoo trouble...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I'm talking to the opener but the same applys to anyone in a professional field.

It can only hurt you.... Maybe not much. Maybe not at all, but it's better just not to have it.

ahhh... gotcha. i have 6, so there will be no laser removal in my future. in fact, i'll probably have more by the time i hit med school. i see it as, as long as they are able to be covered up when appropriate, you should be entitled to express yourself. and mine are too rad to get rid of anyways. 😀

I don't see anything inherently wrong or evil with it.

Just trashy looking to some people including myself. I hope you consider that.

absolutely. everyone has their own opinions. i respect 'em!

I've just been accepted to medical school 🙂)) but I'm beginning to worry about my tattoo. It's on the upper arm and while it's possible to cover with a long sleeve shirt/lab coat, it is visible when wearing any short sleeve shirt (e.g. scrubs). I will get it removed some day but for now I'm too broke. Does anybody have suggestions on how to conceal it? Would I need to cover it up in class or only during patient contact?
Well..well...well... You come to the right place. I have this problem also due to dumb decisions as a late teen and I have been getting the lazer treatment for a few months now (PAINFUL STUFF). Anywho, I have been working at hospital for years and no one even know I have one unless I tell them. You will need to put tedhose on your arms. I got mine from the hospital I was working at so it should be easy for you to get some. Cut the tedhose at the "ankle part" and slide them on your arms. They are lightweight, cool in the summer(and hot/busy wards), and they look cool.(kinda like something an athlete would wear). When I was in the OR I kept them on under my jacket or gown and almost pasted out from being too hot. You will just have to go with it and be seen. So you will have no choice during surgical rotations. I really dont like the way my tattoos portray me, especially because I'm black🙄, to coworkers and patients. So unless you have to, you will not like the lazer treatment. PM me if you have any questions, I have been doing this for a while...

👍

Personally, I like the fact that your getting them lazered off.

How many tattoos did you have? How long did they say the pain will last and how much did it cost? I'm just curious 🙂

*I actually had to count*🙄 I have four. They are faded and thats another reason I cover them. I dont want to look like I just have bad tattoos. They are on my forearms and very noticable since my skin is light. They cost $75 per tattoo and I go once a month. I would have BEEN done but I have other things to pay so I stop going for a while. It hurts like hell too. You meet people that say they slept through a tattoo but there is no way in hot hell you can sleep though this. So unless you absolutely, positively want them gone without a doubt. DONT DO IT. It will hurt painfully(your pockets too). *Im going all the way with mine though😎*

A doctor I met at the E.D. had a skull tattoo on his upper forearm.
