With societal norms changing what does everyone think about getting a visible tattoo. I already have one small one on my arm proximal to my antecubital. I want to get another one in the same spot on my other arm. I worry about professionalism as a vet. My scrubs come just above where they are.

Just a few. But I sincerely hope that the human race becomes less judgmental as time goes on. As always, just use your surroundings as social clues as to what you need to adjust according to the "norm" for your surroundings. everyone is going to be different. It is up to you to make sure your envrironment is appropriate and/or you adjust accordingly. I am a very open mind, but find myself in the middle of not so very, so make sure I am me while amongst those who are far from. Part of life and can still make you who you are if you know yourself but not at the expense of others. 🙂

 

[Lab Vet]

I have two giant tattoos (a Japanese Koi and Dragon) on my shins, and a line of kanji on my left arm. All can be covered when need be. If I'm in a professional setting, I cover them. In informal settings (sitting in class, participating in wet labs, chatting with profs), I'm quite happy to let them show (with a t-shirt and cargo shorts, they're very obvious). I've never received a negative comment. Be smart about where you get them, and I don't see a problem with having tats as a veterinarian.

Almost everyone who works at my clinic is tattooed -mostly on the forearms! I say go for it [emoji5]
