I’m a tiny woman, about 5ft/ 110lb. My half sleeve is the only visible tattoo I have. Nothing inappropriate, mostly scriptures of the Quran.
Am I supposed to mention this in a application? It will be covered in the interview (of course). Do I wait until I get accepted somewhere and then ask them about it? I don’t want to disqualify myself.
Do I have to cover it when wearing scrubs? Like all the time..?

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about this until you are accepted and then receive a dress code.

thank you, im actually a texas resident. Do you mind telling me how Baylor would see it as?

I just skimmed the "Student Attire Regulations" they gave us. No mention of tattoos. You have to be professional. With that comes the reality that old folks see young folks with tattoos as unprofessional. You may have to cover them up, but that's a problem for a later day.

Yeah I don't have a problem covering them up. I just wonder if I would have to in a classroom setting. Like sitting in lectures.
thanks

You'll be in scrubs from day 1 at most schools, but I doubt your professors would ask you to cover your tattoos...

Man I hope not ..... only time will tell.

Just wear a long sleeve shirt underneath your scrubs. People do it all the time. Its freezing cold in the labs and lecture halls anyways. For interview just cover it up.

Now I know what to do if I have a sudden urge to get a sleeve between know and my interview

By no means should you mention it. It isn't their business. If you are able to cover it for interviews, that means that you are able to be perfectly professional in even the most conservative settings.

Some residents I have worked with have worn long sleeves to cover tattoos when in scrubs. Others have rocked them loud and proud. Go with your dress code... after you get the position.

No offense, but why the hell would you mention what kind of tattoos you have in your application? I guess I'm just too dense to comprehend some of the questions that get brought up here... Beside, aren't you even suppose to be covering your arms? idk just wondering.

Exactly. There isnt a space to put that down.

As for the arm covering she's wearing a dress then it isnt guaranteed to have sleeve. I dont know too much about fashion but Im sure there are plenty of women's attire that dont have sleeves.

I think it's just because as men, we only have 1 formal attire. Suits. Boring, but I like simple.

I was just curious if I was suppose to let them know I have one. I understand that they'll be covered in clinical/ interview setting. Just wondering about lectures and my professors seeing it. If its allowed to be shown in the dental school at all.

Not all women professional attire have the arms covered. But thanks for your opinion. But I understand now that it depends on the school.

Thanks for the responses

Got accepted to Baylor and I have sleeves. Just be professional and cover them up. I plan on wearing long sleeve shirts under scrubs. Professors typically won't show that it bothers them, but the more they are noticed, the more you will be labelled as the "person with the tattoos." Some will be quick to judge and write you off. I personally experienced this in my undergrad.
