Since "Simple organic compounds (e.g. alkanes, alkenes, alkynes), aromatic compounds, ethers, and amines no longer directly tested" on the new mcat, is it worth to still cover chapter 4 of the TBR O chem book (hydrocarbons and reactions)?

That chapter was for all intents and purposes removed in the 2015 version. The chapter that replaced it focuses on the organic chemistry aspects of biological molecules. So instead of worrying about the melting point of an alkene versus an alkane, you need to worry about cell membrane fluidity. It's the same concept at the molecular level, just applied differently. Alkene organic chemistry is completely removed, but the hydration and hydrogenation processes in biochemistry have been added. In essence, that chapter became a biochemistry chapter.

So considering that chapter 4 from the old book (the one you have) was removed, it's safe to skip that material. However, make sure you cover the material from the new version of that chapter (which is actually chapter 5 in the new BR organic books).

Do you mean cover the material from the new version of that chapter which is chapter 5 in the OLD BR organic books?

Basically, since we have the older version of the book which chapter should we cover?

Chapter 5 in the new book does not exist in the older book. There is one page on alkane properties from the old chapter 4 in the new chapter 5, but outside of that one page, it's all the new stuff for this exam. It includes lipids, fatty acids, signal molecules, fat-soluble vitamins, and terpenes. There is some terpene material in the older book, so be sure to look at that.
