I don't know why the answer would be that specific answer. I thought the vector would be the negative vector of the answer. The vector answer that they give seems to be as if Person 2 was throwing the ball to Person 1. Instead of what the passage states specifically as Person 1 throwing the ball to Person 2.

I'm looking at it. I think you have it mixed up. Person 1 is on the inside throwing the ball to Person 2 on the outside. They're going clockwise. So the ball will basically follow that trajectory once released. However, since it's being released AND thrown to the outside diameter, it's also going to have a velocity in that direction. Just add the velocities up(down and left) to get the diaganol of down and left.🙂
