I didn't see a thread for this school/program so I just wanted to make one for the students that are applying/accepted!

Anyone in the application process?

I'm going to be submitting my application here next week. Have you already applied?

Are there any TCMC MBS students around who can tell us more about the program?

Applied early January, complete beginning of February, and I have my interview scheduled for March 23! Anyone else have interviews scheduled already? Also, does anyone know when the MCAT course is offered in the summer (exact dates)? Looked around on the website but only found dates for the payment schedule.

I did apply and was invited for an interview on April 1st... Excited but nervous!

please keep us posted on how your interview goes!! If you call the admissions office, I am sure they will let you know. I spoke to a lady named Jillian who was really helpful and friendly!

I submitted my application on Feb 12th. I got an email yesterday to schedule my interview. I will be interviewing April 1st.

Anyone knows what are the nature of the questions asked during the interview? I'm excited about the interview but I have no idea how to prepare for it, so any direction would be much appreciated.

I've heard that a lot of the questions are similar to med school interview questions. So definitely be prepared to answer the typical "Why medicine?" (Assuming you are headed down that path in the future). I believe they also expect you to know the roots of the school; how it started and the reason for its establishment. I'm thinking overall it will be very similar to med school interview questions. Past threads have said the interview was pretty laid back though.

Hey everyone,

So I just got an invite to the MBS program despite the fact that I never completed my application. Is this normal?
(I started my application to the MBS after being rejected from their med school)

I am also interviewing on that date! Good luck. I think they look for why you specifically want to attend that program instead of others.

I did too! Did you accept the interview invite? I'm not sure what to do

I've been invited to interview. Mine is on March 27th. I'm excited but nervous, so I'm really glad to see someone made a forum for this application cycle!

is there a linkage or any kind of guarantee for this program?

You mean linkage to their MD program? I'm not sure about guaranteed admission to their MD program afterwards, but this program will definitely prepare you for applying to medical school in general. And MBS students will be taking the same class as first-year TCMC medical students, which I think is awesome!

Anyone from Scranton or around the area? Tomorrow will be my first time in Pennsylvania!

Really! M1 classes are taken? For some reason I didn't catch that detail in the description of the program...

Strange! I mean, if there's no linkage, I wonder why they take the time and energy to interview applicants.

I think their MBS is like every other graduate program that requires an interview. I mean it's good practice for the actual med school interview in the near future since they pretty much ask the same questions.

There is no linkage but about 20-30 students of the MD1 class come from the MBS program.

I had my interview yesterday. It was pretty laid back, and my interviewer treated it more like a conversation rather than firing questions at me one after the other. I was impressed by the school's facility and also liked the area a lot. I think it was great that most of the resources available to MD students are also available to MBS students (simulation centers, clubs, etc.) and that the professors are willing to help you with the MD application process in terms of LORs and mock interviews. The course schedule is definitely packed and will come very close to the rigor of MD1 at TCMC according to my interviewer. I was very impressed with the school after my interview, so I'm looking forward to the decision! Hopefully these decisions come out early. We were told about 2-2.5 weeks. Good luck to everyone who interviewed yesterday! Hope to see some of you in the Fall 🙂

I think they interview especially because this is an accelerated program. After attending interview day I can see why they want to make sure that the students they select will be the right fit for such a fast paced program. Also since it is primarily a medical school I'm sure they want students who can get them decent stats for placing into med school after MBS. I felt that the whole interview day was more geared towards giving students more info about the program, anyways. Even my interviewer took a good amount of time to answer all of my questions. So overall I would take the interview day more as an opportunity to figure out if you would want to be there if accepted.

I just got offered an interview as well! I'm very happy, albeit nervous. 🙂

Has anyone done the phone interview?

Just interviewed here this morning! It is very laid back and you interview with one faculty member for 30 minutes. The rest of the morning was a tour of the school and a session about the curriculum. I got asked only three questions: why this program, what my study habits are, and where I see myself in 10 years.

Good luck!

I hope you get accepted! Did the faculty mention the percentage of students who get accepted into TCMC or any other medical school (and if so, where)?

With regards to the MBS program, about 200 interviews are offered to fill roughly 65-70 seats. As for the medical school, I'm not sure. The class size for the MD program is around 100-150 I think.

And they mentioned that the MBS class is usually divided. Half apply to medical school while in the program while half do not. I think about 15 MBS students are accepted into TCMC's medical program. I don't remember the statistics for other schools.

They did not give an exact number but they mentioned that last year, ~20 were accepted to the MD1 class.

Something I found a little disappointing was that the program has a ~60% placement rate into medical/dental/etc school... that is pretty low in my opinion. However, they are a new school so it is understandable.

Congratulations! 😀 Are you guys attending?

I am currently applying to the MD program and am on the waitlist. I was thinking about also applying to the MBS program in case I didn't get in and found out that if you are on the waitlist for the MD program your are automatically offered a spot in the MBS program. I'm excited bc I think it is a great opportunity!

I have a phone interview in 10 mins!! I'll let you guys know what its like!

Hey guys,
Well the phone interview was a little over 40 mins, I was sent the brochure and the packet they give to interviewees the day of the interview. I got this info a couple of days before so I had time to read it thoroughly and make some notes for possible questions and stuff like that. I also read the schools website (every tab and link) and got more possible questions from there. I had read on previous posts that the interviews had been laid back but let me just say, thank the old and new gods that I prepared.
I was schedule for a phone interview at 2pm but the Dr. was late and called me at 2:03pm lol. We introduced each other and then he asked me if I was ready. This man just started asking me interview questions, one after the other! And when I say "interview questions" I mean questions like, what are your strengths/weaknesses?, what would you bring to TCMC?, why TCMC?, what would be the hardest/easiest thing from doing the MBS at TCMC?, overcoming challenges in life questions and many more! I was some what prepared for those questions because of other interviews that I've had but it definitely caught me off guard. Then of course he asked if I had any questions… so I asked him almost every single question that I had written down, by the end he ended up saying "wow you have some good questions." I really wanted to know the answer to those questions, it wasn't just payback… Anyway my advise is, if you can afford the trip, just go because it is probably going to be easier and more laid back than the phone interview. If you cant (like in my case) then, prepare prepare and prepare.
Hope it helps

hi all! i just got invited for an interview and the closest date was may 4th so i chose that, any advice? ive been creeping all the past forums regarding the interview but if anyone has interviewed recently would love some feedback!

It is pretty laid back! Just know why you want to go to the school and how you hope to add to the class. I did not find the interview to be stressful at all. It lasts exactly 30 minutes (they knock on the door after 25 minutes). After the interview, you get a tour of the school and you get to ask questions to the director of the program. Good luck!

I loved TCMC when I visited for my interview, but I have decided to decline my offer of acceptance mainly due to the distance from home. I will be attending the Boston University MAMS program this fall, so I hope my spot at TCMC goes to someone out there waiting for a spot to open up 🙂 Good luck everyone!
