Yes! Way to go, ac. I tried to log into the match but it wouldn't let me in. I told my wife what I was doing and why (to see if you got in) and she just rolled her eyes. I LOVE having classmates!!!

👍

^ since there's no  emoticon. 😛

Was TCOM everyone's first choice? And where (university and/or state) is everyone coming from?

TCOM was my second choice in the match (UTH for the TMC only, I loved TCOM at first sight and since...I just wish it was located at the TMC).

I'm from UT-Austin.

Hi guys, I have been a long time reader of this site, but this is my first post. I got matched to TCOM as well. Looks like we will all be seeing each other come this August.

does "did not match" mean rejection or waitlist? congrats everyone.

I did not match with TCOM. When and how will I be notified if I am placed on wait list?

Hey classmates! Glad to be here, and congrats to you all!

And just because I'm used to being paranoid: have any of you received an e-mail or anything from the school?

You should get a letter in the next week or so describing your status. The good news is that, almost certainly, people will be pulled from the wait list.

So there is still hope. I already got a letter in the mail which said that I am in fact on the waitlist. Now I just need to find out where on that list I stand.

For all of you who didn't match we're still cheering for you and praying that you can join us in July. Even if you were on the waitlist last year and you're on it again it doesn't matter... this is a new year and it might just be the year for you!! Don't give up ... we are all here for you. THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS!! Plus I hear there is a lot of movement going on right now so you may get pulled.

what makes you say that there is a lot of movement going on right now? getting pulled quickly would be great. let me know what you heard.

Hopefully once the Baylor folks turn down their TMDSAS acceptances soon, that will push other people who ranked at lower schools up their list of schools, and it will clear up some space at TCOM leaving a seat for you guys. A good number of people who are accepted at Baylor is of Texas residence, so I'm positive they are also holding on to a TMDSAS school. So I'd say it will clear up nearly 100 spots or so.

Canuck, I wouldn't depend exclusively on the waitlist. Dr. Sheedlo, one of the adcoms told me there have been alot less movement on the waitless the past years. This is impart due to the postbacc program. Everyone in there this year (about 30) got an interview and the adcoms would rather take someone from this group who they "know" already than someone who has had less exposure to TCOM. Just have a plan incase of worst scenarios. Sorry man, I'm pretty pissed myself after not matching my third app. cycle. Fortunately I got into Kansas. 🙂

Sorry to turn this thread sour. Congrats again to all who matched!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that only 12 seats would be saved for the post bac program and then the rest of the people were going to be put with the rest of the waitlist. I read this from previous posts... i think maybe the one that says "TCOM anyone else out there" if not I read it on the Texas thread. I'm sorry I wish I could be more help. Have you guys tried to set up an appnt. with an admin. counselor?

NRRdT Congrats for getting into KANSAS... you're gonna be a doctor !!!! and maybe soon you'll get pulled off the TCOM waitlist and into the official accept. list.

Your correct, ac101ac. The postbaccs that don't fill the 12 seats are put onto the regular waitlist. Last year about 4 postbaccs were pulled from the waitlist. For those that are waitlisted, I would talk to Joel Daboub or Lynn Scott in adcom so you'll get your name out there.

Adcom figures since these students did well enough in the postbacc program where they had to prove themselves in a tough courseload, the postbaccs will do well in med school as well. This has proven true for the previous postbaccs who regularly end up in the top 10% of the class. For those that are waitlisted, I would talk to Joel Daboub or Lynn Scott in adcom so you'll get your name out there.

I too am wait listed. Went to a bar to pass the time last night. My billfold and cell phone (my only phone) were stolen. Got home and saw:

You did not match any school.

Couldn't even call a friend. Slept like hell. Checked the mail this am and low and behold...

The Wait List letter. (And they actually capitalized Wait List!)

What a freakin' roller coaster!

Congrats to all who made it in and good luck to everyone who's still hoping!

Ironic. I applied to the most recent post-bacc at TCOM. Got waitlisted, later accepted, and then had to turn the acceptance down. Could not afford to wait on the acceptance, had other things that I needed to move on to. Got the call and had to tell them "sorry." I guess that could be a good thing or a bad thing. About how many people get in off the waitlist at TCOM each year. I feel good about it, so we will see.

I hear crickets out there........ what's going on? I guess this is good news for those on the wait list !!

Can someone tell me more on the spring fling thing?

AC, can you enlighten us on this "spring fling thing" you mentioned? Is this a party you're throwing for the rest of our new class where you buy all the food and drinks and we just show up and eat, drink, and talk?

That is SO great of you! Count me in!

I was looking through the list of required books for next semester...or rather the books that the current MSIs used during their first two semesters...and I noticed that one of the developmental books is entitled The Developing Human. I dunno...it kind of made me laugh.

Later, classmates! 🙂

Ryan, that is funny. I guess we're all still "developing" to some degree eh?

Are you in for ac101ac's free eat/drink bash?

Safety isn't really an issue with housing near TCOM, price is the problem. Because the school is in such a nice area (cultural/historic district), the closer to campus the more expensive it becomes. The great side to this neighborhood is that many people rent garage apartments/cottages exclusively to the medical and grad students. Those who wanted to be within walking/biking distance to the campus were able to find what they wanted.

Try to attend the 'Spring Fing' event. It is usually in April (?) and there is a housing fair. Apartment representatives will be there as well as information from private individuals looking specifically to rent to UNTHSC students. It is also a great opportunity to meet current students who can give you more info on housing (in addition to meeting your future classmates). If you can't attend, don't worry. You will be able to check the school's site for housing.

Wonderful, ac! I'm not on the rural path yet, but I'm not ruling it out either. Sounds like we have a great program in this area.

Spring Fling is your chance to see the campus again (before you arrive for school), meet some of your classmates, look for housing and generally tour the town. If at all possible, try to come. You can bet that there will be a group of current students available to answer the questions you were afraid to ask as an applicant as well as give you the 'downtown tour'.

I don't know the exact dates, but as soon as I hear I'll post them here. Plan on early-mid April. Our class is working very hard to make Spring Fling a success for ya'll! And, yes, I dropped the ya'll bomb.

I'll keep spying on your questions here or you can post them on our class site and get a variety of responses.

Congrats UNTHSC-TCOM 2010!!!!!!!!

Now didn't I tell you that you would be freaking out over books and such in the near future??

Don't worry about books for now. You have plenty of time to get what you need. Don't use our list as yours may change. In the near future your class website will go up with info the school wants you to have (books, Spring Fling, etc). However, I will give you some advice for the future as there was quite a bit of *confusion* over books last year.

Are the books required? YES
Do you need to BUY every book? NO
Do you need access to every book? YES

Every book on your list will be available on reserve in the library. This means that should you elect not to purchase a book, you will have access to that book, but you may have to wait for someone else to return it (two-hour, in-library use only). Some books are used so frequently that you really need your own copy (Netter for anatomy).

Some clubs give complimentary copies for joining. You will probably end up with two Netter's this way. The MS III and IVs will be selling books for cheap. Your big buddy may give or lend you books.

You can say that again! I remember that grid they gave us at the interview, reflecting all of the crimes that DIDN'T happen.

Anyone know how much movement there typically is off the waitlist at TCOM?

I feel left out. Maybe there is a special spring fling for all the cool waitlist pre-meds. just kidding, that was a joke.

Hey Canuck99 you can come join us. Don't feel left out... you can just sit there and in case you don't match (WHICH I think you WILL :luck: ) then you'll be ahead of everyone else next year. Plus you can always tell the SF coordinators that we invited you and that you wanted to see what the fuss was all about 😀 Also, I got my letter where I have to accept or decline today so if all goes well for you, there may be people giving up their seat since they may be going to other schools.

Anyone know how long we to accept or reject? If someone can provide this answer it may kind of give those on the waitlist an idea of how long it will be before they hear anything from TCOM.

I was under the impression that we had (roughly) two weeks to either accept or decline. However, with all of the deadlines that we've had, I could just be pulling that number out of my...well, I could be mistaken.

I got my letter, too. Doesn't it mention something about February 17th being somewhat deadline-esque?

Ryan, you are correct... the deadline is Feb. 17th.

We should start our own frat! Haha. Pool partys after exams and free flowing beer during Mavs/Boys/Stars games. First we need a house. haha, jk. I like the idea though. 😀

Canuck, as of right now I really haven't talked to anyone and plus let's give it a few more days since other people might still be waiting. I will see what I can find out these next couple of days for you.

The movement is a domino effect, the Baylor people and out of staters may have matched to a TX school and will decline acceptances since they may decide to stay oos or go to baylor... this starts the process moving and eventually everyone gets moved around... but we have to give it some time since letters of acceptance/decline are not due till Feb. 17. After that day if you still haven't heard anything I would call TCOM. In the mean time it would really help to have the baylor people turn in the letter declining their spots at other tx schools.

Yeah, Canuck99! Best of luck with everything! Hopefully we'll see you in class this fall (well, actually summer, since we start in July!). If I find out anything, I'll keep you posted, pal! 🙂
