studentdoctor2 said:I did not match with TCOM. When and how will I be notified if I am placed on wait list?
hyperbaric said:You should get a letter in the next week or so describing your status. The good news is that, almost certainly, people will be pulled from the wait list.
Canuck99 said:So there is still hope. I already got a letter in the mail which said that I am in fact on the waitlist. Now I just need to find out where on that list I stand.
ac101ac said:For all of you who didn't match we're still cheering for you and praying that you can join us in July. Even if you were on the waitlist last year and you're on it again it doesn't matter... this is a new year and it might just be the year for you!! Don't give up ... we are all here for you. THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS!! Plus I hear there is a lot of movement going on right now so you may get pulled.
nrddct said:Canuck, I wouldn't depend exclusively on the waitlist. Dr. Sheedlo, one of the adcoms told me there have been alot less movement on the waitless the past years. This is impart due to the postbacc program. Everyone in there this year (about 30) got an interview and the adcoms would rather take someone from this group who they "know" already than someone who has had less exposure to TCOM. Just have a plan incase of worst scenarios. Sorry man, I'm pretty pissed myself after not matching my third app. cycle. Fortunately I got into Kansas. 🙂
ac101ac said:Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that only 12 seats would be saved for the post bac program and then the rest of the people were going to be put with the rest of the waitlist. I read this from previous posts... i think maybe the one that says "TCOM anyone else out there" if not I read it on the Texas thread. I'm sorry I wish I could be more help. Have you guys tried to set up an appnt. with an admin. counselor?

Sorry to turn this thread sour. Congrats again to all who matched!!!

Can someone tell me more on the spring fling thing?

ac101ac said:Safety isn't really an issue with housing near TCOM, price is the problem. Because the school is in such a nice area (cultural/historic district), the closer to campus the more expensive it becomes. The great side to this neighborhood is that many people rent garage apartments/cottages exclusively to the medical and grad students. Those who wanted to be within walking/biking distance to the campus were able to find what they wanted.
Try to attend the 'Spring Fing' event. It is usually in April (?) and there is a housing fair. Apartment representatives will be there as well as information from private individuals looking specifically to rent to UNTHSC students. It is also a great opportunity to meet current students who can give you more info on housing (in addition to meeting your future classmates). If you can't attend, don't worry. You will be able to check the school's site for housing.

hyperbaric said:Spring Fling is your chance to see the campus again (!!!!!!
ac101ac said:Thanks hyperbaric !! I knew we could count on you.... now for the first question.... where can we get the list of books we'll need for the first semester? 😱
ac101ac said:Safety isn't really an issue with housing near TCOM, price is the problem.
Canuck99 said:Anyone know how much movement there typically is off the waitlist at TCOM?
I feel left out. Maybe there is a special spring fling for all the cool waitlist pre-meds. just kidding, that was a joke.
) then you'll be ahead of everyone else next year. Plus you can always tell the SF coordinators that we invited you and that you wanted to see what the fuss was all about 😀 Also, I got my letter where I have to accept or decline today so if all goes well for you, there may be people giving up their seat since they may be going to other schools. ac101ac said:Hey Canuck99 you can come join us. Anyone know how long we to accept or reject? If someone can provide this answer it may kind of give those on the waitlist an idea of how long it will be before they hear anything from TCOM.
Ryan - 1208 said:I was under the impression that we had (roughly) two weeks to either accept or decline. However, with all of the deadlines that we've had, I could just be pulling that number out of my...well, I could be mistaken.
I got my letter, too. Doesn't it mention something about February 17th being somewhat deadline-esque?
ac101ac said:Ryan, you are correct... the deadline is Feb. 17th.
Canuck99 said:unlikely, but does anyone know of somebody that is going to decline their acceptance, or take a spot somewhere else?
ac101ac said:Canuck, as of right now I really haven't talked to anyone and plus let's give it a few more days since other people might still be waiting. I will see what I can find out these next couple of days for you.
The movement is a domino effect, the Baylor people and out of staters may have matched to a TX school and will decline acceptances since they may decide to stay oos or go to baylor... this starts the process moving and eventually everyone gets moved around... but we have to give it some time since letters of acceptance/decline are not due till Feb. 17. After that day if you still haven't heard anything I would call TCOM. In the mean time it would really help to have the baylor people turn in the letter declining their spots at other tx schools.
Canuck99 said:thanks for the heads-up. i do realize that it is very early, but as i am sure you can understand i am just anxious.
Where is everyone? Obviously not aware of SDN.... haha..we never even use it...🙂Ryan - 1208 said:I was looking through the list of required books for next semester...or rather the books that the current MSIs used during their first two semesters...and I noticed that one of the developmental books is entitled The Developing Human.
