But I thought it was curious how only 4 of you guys choosed to do the rotating internship. Is this the same thing as the AOA "traditional rotating internship" we often see people on SDN get upset over? It seems as if there's been a lot of talk about getting rid of it.

What are your thoughts on the rotating internship?

I think this list shows where people matched for their advanced position, when applicable. Some programs ie. Rads, Anesth, PM&R require a Transitonal Year/Rotating Internship/Prelim Medicine year whether or not you're a DO and it's just not listed on the match list. For example, I am on TCOM's above list for Radiology. I am also doing a Transitional Year, but it's not listed as a 2nd entry.
Perhaps those 4 who are listed as doing rotating internships are still undecided what they want to go into or didn't match into something then scrambled for an internship. Just a guess.
As far as my thoughts on the Rotating Internship? I'm not sure if I want to go there.

Unless you're talking about a location like Harvard, Hopkins, etc or a residency like Neurosurgery, Plastics or Derm....its more likely that either no one was interested in a specific specialty or location then it is that no one matched in it who tried

Most likely that no one was interested, given the statistics of the high board scores achieved by the class (25% of all students in 90th percentile in boards and 92% pass rate on USMLE) and the fact the neurology is a non-competitive specialty.

GI is a fellowship after Internal Medicine...ie you will never see it listed on any match lists from any school

Taus is right...you will never see GI listed in the residency match as you have to go through another match to enter into IM subspecialties (cardiology, GI, pulm, hem/onc etc.) after you complete your IM residency. There are alot of IM residents that graduated from TCOM that enter fields like cardiology, GI, oncology. Just do a search in the various IM subspecialty departments in TX schools and they often listen which schools they graduated from.
