Yes I know this is a crazy comparison, but it is a real one that I may be faced with, so I was wondering about any opinions anyone may have. Between TCOM and SUNY Upstate, which do you feel is the OVERALL better educational experience. I am not talking anything about DO vs MD at all. I am talking strictly from an educational standpoint, which do you feel is the better program if I am looking to go into either emergency medicine or general internal medicine? As I said, please try to leave any MD-DO bias anyone may have to the side and judge them by what they have to offer. Thanks!

You may not like hearing this but just from the perspective of only studying for one set of boards I'd pick the MD. Just a quality of life thing.

Compare things like graded vs p/f and quality of clinicals

SUNY Upstate.

It's impossible to leave out the MD vs DO factor in the comparison. As it stands, it's objectively harder for DO students to match compared to MD peers, and if you're interested in IM or EM at a strong program coming from an MD school with a home residency gives you an advantage.

I don't mind you putting it in that context at all, I understand what you mean. I just didn't want a completely biased answer. Your can't really answer this question without choosing one or the other anyway, but you did it in a thought out and reasonable way, so I appreciate your response, thank you.

This.
The food will be better in Ft Worth though.

Save yourself the time of 2+ hours a week of OMM when you could be studying for your classes and go to SUNY.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I guess you would be right about MD being an easier route if given the option between the two. I appreciate the feedback.

I go to TCOM. It’s great. No complaints. But studying OMM is such a pain as is prepping for COMLEX. For that reason alone, go MD.
