Hi all! I'm in a HUGE dilemma, I have interviews from both TCOM and Western Uni/COMP, for the same day! Both schools are telling me that the date they offered is the last date for interviews, period. I can't decide what I should do! TCOM is my state school, and my top choice, but I'm afraid if I cancel my interview at Western and go to TCOM's interview, and end up getting rejected, I will be seriously out of luck since I don't have any other acceptances! I've already bought plane tickets and all, but I will gut the blow from it if I actually have a chance of getting into TCOM!!
HEEELPPPP!:scared:😱 Any thoughts/comments are greatly appreciated!

I was under the impression interviews lasted for another couple of months, when are the interviews scheduled for? If they are in fact the last possible date for both school I'd try to take a look at which you have a better chance of getting into. Its a ****ty situation but its a chance you are going to have to take and ultimately a decision you will have to make for yourself

Call the school daily asking if any earlier interviews opened up? Short of finding yourself a flux capacitor I think this is your only option.

How do your stats compare to both schools' averages for GPA & MCAT? What about EC's? In essence, which school are you most competitive at?

If you can't get an earlier date at one of the schools, go to the TCOM one for sure. The tuition/COA is way better at TCOM compared to Western.

TCOM is your state school and an amazing program. I would definitely go for that.

Western is a great school, and I'd try to do everything you could to get an earlier date, but TCOM ftw. It's a powerhouse, and has instate tuition ... which I cannot glorify enough. IN STATE tuition ... I'm jealous just talking about it.

TCOM as in the one in Fort Worth?

I thought all Texas medical schools (minus Baylor) were done with since match occurred a week ago?

As far as choices go, I would definitely recommend TCOM as it's your instate school and has a great program. Beautiful campus as well. Also, if you end up having to cancel one, make sure the one you do interview at knows full well the situation you were put in so that you hope that that counts for something.

Apparently they're having one more interview day. I was surprised myself.

Also, tuition+fees at TCOM in-state is only 13k/year. That is a huge plus.

No one was more surprised than me when I got that phone call! Anybody know what the deal is with that? (not that I'm, complaining) TCOM is perfect for me in SO many ways, I was bummed I didn't get an interview! I think I will be going with TCOM, and that seems like the general consensus...you think it's a good idea to tell them I canceled an interview at another school so I could come to TCOM? Should I just be like "oh darn, I have another one that day, and they can't offer me anothe date either, but I'll just cancel it." This sounds so silly, but I don't want to mess up my chances of getting into TCOM!!

You should definitely tell them this story (that you abandoned the other school for their school).

Also, do you have a twin?...

My personal recommendation would be is to make an appointment with the director of the admissions office. "Appointment" might be a bit strong though. Just ask the girl organizing the day if you can have a few minutes of the director's time.... I'm sure they will be happy to oblige, they're all really nice people.

Then, just pull them aside, praise their school and program and mention that you chose them over western for all your reasons, instate, perfect fit, love the campus/faculty, etc. and you're hoping it all works out for the best and that that's factored into their consideration of you as an overall candidate. be yourself and be genuine about it. Maybe con

Personally, that would go leaps and bounds for me if I were sitting on the admissions committee. If they're on the fence about you, it could be the feather that puts you in the accepted category.

I don't know anything about the other school. But, I interviewed at TCOM and was very impressed by their program.

op, another recommendation I'd make is to write a letter to Western's admissions director explaining the situation.

Just say you felt very privileged/honored to receive an offer for an interview but unfortunately had to turn it down b/c of TCOM's offer. State the reasons why you turn it down as something along the lines of, less of a burden of debt with instate tuition.

Conclude that should med school not work out this year, you will of course reapply next year and welcome the opportunity to demonstrate and show yourself to their admissions committee.

if I were western's adcom director, I couldn't fault you for wanting to get instate tuition.

yup, people cancel interviews by the hours! especially now when people are dropping their acceptance/ being accepted and are dropping interviews. CALL and check OFTEN! but if it really comes down, I would go to TCOM, just because it ur in state school, cheap tution and u have a good chance of getting in.
r u already accepted somewhere else?

That would be convenient!

I thought my problem was solved after TCOM gave me an interview for the 12th, but it got canceled due to bad weather. Now I have been sitting here biting my nails waiting for them to call and reschedule. I haven't talked to Western at all because I thought things worked out with TCOM and I could go to both. *sigh* Now I just have to wait till tmrw and hope that things work out.🙁

Don't be afraid to call them tomorrow. It shows that you're keenly interested, and hopefully you will get your answer faster.

Man! Called twice already and no answer :bang:
I gotta find something to distract me from thinking so much...lol
