Avoid TCOM at all costs. I'm a fourth year there and it is by far one of the worst learning environments I ever had the mistake of entering. First their new curriculum is nothing more than 75% self study, yet you still pay a high tuition for the faculty that you don't see. Second is that it is a highly political school that cares little about their students after they sign over their loan checks. Third the rotations are horrible. Most of the time you do nothing but observe, and there is very little teaching. So be smart and look elsewhere. The moderator will most likely delete this since they dislike the truth if it goes against their views. Only five months and it's history. Finally, TCOM has a horrible Alumni fund, since nobody ever gives back to the school they hate.

Ps: Administrator....Why do you keep deleting my post?????

Once again, prove to me that the new curriculum is 75 % self study. I don't think you have your facts in order.

Facts: I just look at the 2nd year schedule and it has self study all over the place(it's in my hand right now, yes I have lower classmate friends). I like to think of it as med schoool by mail. Something you would see advertised late at night, just after the psychic promo. So are you for or against the instructors giving out the test questions before the exam???
I mean Dr. Barker's "neuro review sheet" is the test. Or maybe Dr. Marsh putting TQ=Test question next to slides during his lecture. Do they do that at Southwestern???? I've got more, one of the micro instructors actually went down the test and told us EXACTLY what to focus on the day before the test. People complained, but nothing happened. Is it fair to those of us that actually study???? Also, the interracial picture of the two African American students and the two white students at the hsc.unt.edu site. Well look under the education link. The African american woman was an "A" student and she did transfer to Nova in FLA. Things that make you go hmmm. Well, I'm military so it doesn't matter where I go to school, I'm used to teaching myself. The truth is: TCOM IS A JOKE....Sorry, deal with it.

Meet with me and show me the so called "75% self study schedule". It's not the same one i'm looking at. Set the time and the place and i'll be there. The only class I've heard of such, is during MOD, which is fine with me. Adult learning is adult learning. To claim however, 75% of the new curriculum is self study is crap and you know it.
As for instructors giving test questions out, no I don't agree with that what so ever. I don't have a clue what Dr. Barker did for your class, but as far as i'm concerned the study sheets Barker gives our class are NOT the test. In fact, i'm in neuro right now and I would venture to say, if all one studied was the study guide, they would have a hard time making a decent grade on the exams. Those are the FACTS. The truth of the matter is the first two years of med school ANY where, are a period of what I would call HAZING, right of passage, what ever. Other than anatomy, most could stay at home, study and do well on the boards. Sounds like that's what you did. Congrads by the way on your performance on the boards. It seems to me your dedication paid off.
I don't know about Souwthwestern, but I do have a friend at univ of penn med, and according to him there curriculum is a lot more self study them we could imagine. But I think that's great. Tell me, why would one want to go listen to somebody read off there power points when they could do the reading themselves? if you ask me it's an insult to my intelligence. If your bitch is about instruction at the colligate level in general, i concur. In fact you'll probably find the same complaints all across the country within most med schools and other institutions of higher learning. Proffs are not educators (for the most part), nor do all of them take the time needed to prepare to instruct proficiently. Barker by all accounts at least tries to do his best. Anyway I've gotta go, let me know if you want to show me that schedule.

It's the 2nd year schedule. At least we agree that it's all self study in the end. Just don't be foolish to think the can turn you into a doctor. It's all about going outside their little box.

Exactly, but that's anywhere you go to school.
