Teaching for Kaplan while in Med School

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone do this for extra money? I'm teaching for them now and was wondering if it would still be possible to teach next year in med school?

Yeah, I'm a second year and I teach for them right now, and so does one of my classmates and a couple first years. It's not too bad, as long as you don't feel like it's taking you away from studying. I teach like 2 classes a week, sometimes more sometimes less. It's the best way to make some extra money that i've found.

That said, don't do it if you don't have to. I like the job and it's nice to not worry so much about money, but it does detract a lot from study time, relaxing time, intramural sports, all the important stuff.

There are tons of threads out there on this, check them out.

I did it prior to med school for about a year and a half but I found that I didn't have enough free time at all to do it when med school started up.

The only benefit I can see of teaching for Kaplan in med school would be boning the students in your class (should be easy since you're a med student, i.e.: a godlike creature in pre-meds' eyes). Aside from that, is the 40 bucks a week of beer money worth it to deal with all the crap that goes into a class?

I taught for Kaplan the whole way through medical school. It's not much extra work, you get paid pretty good money and you get free Step 1 and Step 2 Qbank.

I taught for Kaplan all through grad school and have continued now in medical school. You can definitely do it, but you have to be efficient with managing your time. Well, that goes for all med school ECs, really. 🙂
