Hello all,

Does anybody have any insight on how experience at a teaching hospital/referral practice will look on an application? The bulk of my hours, as well as my references will come from this sort of setting, and I've read a previous post claiming that colleges will look upon this negatively compared to general practice. I do have general practice experience, just less and not as recent.

Who said that? Some pre-vet? Smells like BS to me.

As long as it's under the direction of a veterinarian, it's fine as experience. In some ways maybe better, because you see a wider variety of more complicated cases at a referral and/or teaching hospital.

Yeah it definitely sounded fishy so I wanted a second opinion as to whether or not this was actually a thing. Thanks for the heads up though!

I don't see any downside to it, as long as you have some variety with your other experiences. If anything it will help you stand out, since pretty much every applicant will have GP experience but not necessarily teaching hospital experience. Good luck!
