Hey guys,

So I have a Kaplan audition for teaching the MCAT coming up soon. I'm just wondering for people who have gone through the process, how was your experience?

Any sort of advice? Ideas on what topic I should do? I think they recommend it be a "how-to" 5 minute presentation using the board.

i got hired not too long ago. Just do whatever comes to your head. IT is not a big deal. I did it on how to treat a drunk college student, lol.

Yeah totally relax about the 5 minute thing... I did it over politics because I had a preprepared presentation over that. It's not a big deal. They're just making sure that you're reasonably comfortable speaking in front of people.

So far Kaplan has been really good to me and very willing to work around my schedule so I can get trained.

The pay ain't bad either 😀 😉

I recently got hired and trained for Princeton (not Kaplan) but training was a lot more work than I thought it would be, lol. We had to come up with actual lesson plan/lecture for the material assigned to us. The first day I was more nervous, but the second day I was more relaxed. Good luck🙂

I did mine on three different ways to tie a bow with a shoelace. 😛 It really doesn't have to be anything extravagant. They just want to see how you are in front of an audience.

Dude enjoy the audition- it'll be the last time you're allowed to present something of your own at Kaplan. The rest of the time you'll be a talking head, a la CNN anchors.

Well, the presentation turned out ok and was really low key (almost to the point of seeming a bit sketchy).....

She was really hard to read whether or not she thought I did a good job - there weren't that many other people there either (just two other people...and one of them was going to teach the LSAT).

Oh well..I wonder how long it'll take to hear back from them.

Kaplan wants MCAT teachers, so be yourself, be personable, and outgoing. They essentially want to weed out book nerds who cant speak to an audience. Also, MCAT is the only class that you have to score in the 90% range or above for each individual subject in order to teach. So make sure they know which ones you are qualified to teach, cause they dont have very many kids that can teach VR. I would tell them that if i were you. Also, make friends with whoever is doing your interview, they are just kaplan teachers themselves, and they have 100% of the say on whether or not you get hired, so be their friend. I Did training this summer for MCAT and LSAT, so if you are just a nasty test taker, you can take the other standardized tests through them, get above 90% and be qualified to teach them and they will like you even more. good luck!

Quick question: Is an 11 VR considered 90th percentile, since the percentile range it represents is 78.7-92.2 %ile. Thanks.

I thought kaplan had one instructor for all three subjects... Am I wrong? I took the course and I only had one instructor for PS, VR, and BS.

I scored a 12PS 8VR and 13BS on the MCAT and was thinking that I could teach for TPR since they have individual subject teachers.
