I am finding it extremely difficult to land a job as a tech/intern at an independent. So far I am calling, and mailing/dropping resumes in person. I am also always on craigslist.

I have been told that a lot of independents desire full-time techs as opposed to prn/part time individuals.

Any merits to this?

What are some of your tips/advice into getting a job in an independent?

I called and was hired same day. Got lucky, was at the right place at the right time. Called a million pharmacies that day. And honestly, its the best intern job ever. What other pharmacy will buy you lunch on the weekends? Just keep on trekin. If you dropped off resumes, call back in a week, i'm sure you have already. Be patient, you never know, you might be getting call backs soon/in a month/in 6 months.

Advice: Join NACP, they will hook you up with an independent who wants to sell in a few years. If independent is your thing.

Did you mean NCPA?

I already joined as a student member, but i dont know how to really navigate the site. I like your advice, because that is my ultimate goal, but could you please go further into detail how I go about using NCPA to my advantage?

I think finding an internship is all about putting the time in to be trained. If you work once a month you will probably be more of a hasstle than benefit. I think it takes a solid week of working before the basic tasks "sink in" to where you can then come in 1-2x a week to help out. At least thats how it was for me. Id place emphasis on your ability to put in hours....
