Hey so I'm graduating this semester and will have a break until august when pharm school starts. I was planning on taking the PTCB to get liscenced and hopefully find a tech job to start saving money during my time off.

I have a friend that took the test a few months ago, but he didn't get his liscence till last week. I thought that was weird considering they told him he passed right away. Does anyone know if you are able to work during that period of time that you're waiting for the liscence (by providing official scores or something), or do you have to actually have the liscence in hand?

Thanks for any info, as I may not go this route if I have to wait 2 months for it.

After ptcb tests you need to apply for state license. Ptcb only shows you're certified. May take a few months for license but you can probably find a job without having license yet

I live in Illinois and I am NOT certified but I have my license.

When I applied, I paid the fee, and printed out a "temporary" license with my name info and ID number.

Then they mailed me an official copy of the license later.

So I was ready to apply with just that license number right away. I am not sure if it is different for other states.

Cvs and Walgreens gave an in house licensing program. You work some time as a tech in training and they offer you a test after you've met the hours.

Thanks for all the input everyone, guess I should have mentioned I'm in Cali.

So does that mean it's possible to get a job at CVS or Walgreens without taking the PTCB first? Or I take the PTCB first to get certified and then CVS/Walgreens takes care of just the liscencing part?

You can do both. The PTCB is super easy and may increase your chances of a hire but you don't need it. Apply without it, I know a friend that did and he was hired.
