Hey guys
I was wondering if anyone know much about technion med school in Israel. this is an American program school. so if studnet would choose they can do the residency in US.
I have been looking for threads and stuff both on value med and SDN, but I hear a lot about sackler and ben goriun university, but mot much about technion.

can you let me know about the school, as well as the interview. I got an interview coming up next week. i've heard that they have really tough interviews
if you could let me know asap, i'd appreciate it.
thanks

Well, because Technion is pretty much the Israeli counterpart of MIT and Harvard COMBINED, I'd venture to say that it's an amazing med school and that admission is probably not very easy... probably significantly harder than sackler and ben gurion..

now this is just my speculation, so hopefully someone who actually knows about the school will post.

The Technion American program is opening up a brand new 4 year program that is open to all students and not just Tuoro college students. The adcom is expecting around 40 students for this coming academic year. As a student in the Israeli MD program at the Technion I was introduced to some of the Prof's that teach in the American program as well as some of the students. The school is located in Haifa (Northern Israel), a coastal city that gets very humid in the summer and stays comfortable in the Winter. The immediate area around the school is old, run down and poor, with many older residents and a large Russian immigrant community. There is a Naval base right next door to the school (mostly male soldiers...if you are interested).
The Technion is one of the most respected technology institutes in the world. However, there is a loose connection between the Med-School and the rest of the Technion Campus. The medical school is the only faculty that is outside of the main campus.. IMHO this isolation takes away from the quality of the med school.

If you'de like to hear more about my experience, please PM me.

good luck!

So do you think that Technion might be better b/c of its technology?
What about residency positions and reputations?
Sackler is very well known in NY

Do some serious serious research before choosing to go there. Even though Ben Gurion, Sackler, and now Technion are building a good reputation in America, their graduates still have to deal with some of the hardships of being a "foreign" student (less than other schools, but it does come in to play). There are also a lot of minuses to going to a school that new- a lot of the kinks haven't totally been worked out yet. That said, Haifa is certainly a better city than Beer Sheva.

And make sure you're really prepared to live in Israel for four years, and understand what that means.

Just keep your eyes open, and talk to as many current students there as possible before making a decision.

I have spoken to several students and no-one has complained about residency positions available to Technion students. Also remember Technion university has been there for years and all the professors for american and canadian programs are the same. The only difference is the american programs vs. israeli.
at this moment i have the choice between Ross, St. George and Technion. The advantage of Ross and St. George is that I'd be doing my clinical rotations in US and I'd be home by the end of second year. (if i can get the hospitals that i want). But Technion got a better education, it's very well known around the world, but it's 4 years in israel.

you should go to the international forum for more info. there are long discussions about the pros/cons of the israeli programs. from all that is said in those forums, technion leaves the most to be desired. not a great reputation from students. check it out for yourself though. best of luck

While the Technion is a young program, and perhaps not as well developed (yet) as the other 2 US programs in Israel, there is no other program I know of (outsie of the US) that has 2 Nobel prize winners (2004) on its teaching staff....the potential is there...

Not one, not two, but THREE nearly identical posts? Wow - that is more annoying than a George Bush speech.
