General opinion here...

I have a Dell Inspiron and a Gateway laptop. I'd go for the Dell. Customer service is excellent. As for any specific technology, make sure it comes wireless-ready (e.g. with that Intel Centrino thingie) because Wi-Fi is all over the place these days.

There isn't any specific technology for medical school. You really only need microsoft office (powerpoint, excel, word), a cd-rom burnable drive so you can burn all your big presentations on em, and internet explorer.

Other than that all you need is a pen, a chair, a desk, a lamp, and coffee. Next thing you know you'll be a doctor.

I agree with VentdependenT. My Micron is three years old and holding up great. The only necessity I can think of is getting a 10/100 card and a high-speed modem, because you can't survive without a high-speed connection. It allows you to procrastinate more efficiently.

Make sure to check with your school before you buy anything. Some schools have minimum requirements for computers. If you can't find the info online, call.
