So how hard is this thing? I'm a CA3 starting cardiac fellowship in July. Not too worried about the written exam, focused on the oral exam...should I be reading up on echo right now? Does anybody know anyone who failed the echo exam on their first attempt? How soon after fellowship do people take this thing?

One of my attendings has said that it was the hardest exam he's ever taken, and that frightens me because the dude is f'ing brilliant.

A) It's a tough exam.
B) A CRNA doing a TEE exam is like a kid shaving his face with a bladeless razor. They really think that they know what they are doing, but all the adults know the truth.

I think he means the written examination you sit for to become ASE certified.

Nurses will never obtain Echo certification.

you need to be a board certified physician to be certified by nbe in echocardiography--all anesthesiologists should attempt basic certification and it should be part of the training for all graduates of every residency including tee, and tte. the advanced pte exam is extremely difficult and requires significant study to pass--the basic exam is going to be rolled out this november--who knows what that will include.
