Hi, PCOM is my first choice osteopathic school. I was wondering if there was anyone else applying there and what their opinion was on the school versus other schools. Any PCOM students as well? Do you like your school, classmates, teachers? I heard the facilities are better than most MD schools, does that make a big difference? I lived in University City for a while, what is the area around PCOM like?
On another note, would I be competitive with a 27 MCAT, and a Post-bac career GPA of 3.7?
Thanks.

PCOM Hopeful

hey,
As far as stats go, you're golden (I go to grad school there and over half of my classmates got in with even lower stats than yours). The area is ok...nothing to brag about except Manayunk. The facilities there are nice but the anatomy lab room has no air circulation system/filter like some other osteopathic schools do. The library is really nice but when exams come around, you have to be ruthless to get a spot to study. At times, it gets so packed with studyers that people migrate to the cafeteria to study.
oh, and the admissions process there is REALLY shady. Hope I answered some of your questions. Please feel free to PM me🙂

Oh,
and the faculty is awesome. Some of them have really creative ways to teach. It would be a definite plus to go there since some of the faculty actually write questions for the boards (they have been known to give you inside tips on what to focus on with your studying)..

I didn't seem to think so.

I guess for people who don't get accepted.

I agree with JP HAzelton

The admissions committee was great at PCOM. They were very quick with giving you a decision.

That helps when you need to put money down at other DO school

Could you tell why you think the admission process is shady?

When I interviewed there, all the admission people were great.

Even got the decision in a few weeks too.

To the OP, I suggest you visit the school if you have the chance. Seeing it and talking to current students there will be more valuable than any responses you can get from a forum.

Cheers!!

I would not characterize the admissions process there as 'shady' - rather as 'inconsistent.' But that's everywhere. And if you can get past that hurdle, I hear the school is excellent.

I guess my main problem is coming to terms with the fact that I am not very compettive for allopathic schools. Don't get me wrong, I love the osteo philosophy and a Doctor is a doctor, but I really worked myself hard. I had a bad undergrad experience but I did very well in post-bac. With the MCAT, I Took it twice like a ***** when I wasn't ready and then a third time when I was actually ready: I had a bad day and got a 27 when I should have gotten upwards of 30.

Its just tough to pour so much in and to be deterred time and time again. But I am excited with the prospect of PCOM. Does anyone have any tips for interviews there? Any cool interviewer, or topic I should raise? I appreciate any help I can get.

Hey, Indymed...🙂
I'm almost have the same situation as you do..and PCOM is my first choice from DO schools. However I did not submit my AACOMAS yet, I'm to submit in a couple of days.
Some of my friends are in PCOM right now and they all have positive things to say about it.
Hopefully we'll be lucky and get in
