During an interview, sometimes as soon as you sit down, you get hit with the: Tell me about yourself question.
I am not asking what to say as a response, but how do you answer this question exactly? Whats the best way of answering this question effectively? How do you respond and what should you bring up as a good response? Thank you.

As with anything throughout the application process, you want your interview to work for you. Therefore consider everything about yourself that makes you unique and interesting, reasons you think you are equipped to be a doctor, things to talk about that aren't elsewhere on your application. Give them a feel for who you are, don't tell them things they already know and don't talk about academics too much. I always considered the "tell me about yourself" question to really mean "tell me everything about yourself that I can't see already from your application."

Tell them anything interesting about your life history, about your family, about your hobbies, about your favorite books or movies or whatever. This will inevitably spawn off side conversations and you'll go from there. Just remember, this is YOUR time to sell yourself to the school, so be sure to guide conversations where you want to go. This may mean directing your interview away from "unimportant topics" if there's some things you specifically want the interviewer to know about you.
