Hey there kids!
I know this seems so basic, but I am starting to prepare for my interviews, and am most intimidated by the question, " tell me about yourself".
This is not to say that I do not know who I am, but I am just confused on how to order things, and what in my life is important enough to talk about in that one question. Any suggestions from the mentors or current dental students.
Thanks!

Where you are from (anything interesting about your town?). Anything big you did when you were younger up until college. Your interests. Just say anything - the whole point is that you'll find SOMETHING to talk more about.

For example I played piano for 13 years. Once I said that we started talking about what I liked to play. Then we talked more about music. Topics just seem to lead into each other.

When someone asks you to tell them about yourself (in my opinion) they are really saying, "tell me something about yourself that sets you apart from the other 1,000 applicants that have the same stats as you." Tell them the truth, but also tell them something about you that will help you be a good doctor and set you apart from others. Don't be afraid to brag, as long as it is sincere. You need to give them something to get them to remember your name, so when they are sitting in a room looking over 100 applicants and your name comes up, your interviewer will say, "I remember that kid. They seemed to be have the desire/skills/dedication/etc to be a good doctor." That is all you need.
