My secondary application (ECU) asks "where else do you plan on sending in secondary applications?" I feel like if I tell them I'm applying to 15 schools it will seriously hurt my chances. Can I just fudge it and fill in like 4 or 5? They can't find out that info anyway, can they? I could just say I decided to apply more places after I sent in my application. What do you guys think?

will someone please explain why telling a school you applied to 20 other schools is bad? i don't get it. dont they know that we need to apply to a bunch to ensure acceptance?

Don't try to figure out why adcoms think what they think. Sometimes, they're just irrational. When you list 20 schools, you're saying that you may not give serious consideration to ECU, and you're just using them in a way. They don't know what other schools you apply to until May 15, the official deadline to accept one, and only 1, offer.

Ha...I was filling out a secondary for a DO school and was asked the same thing. Boy...if the school finds out that I'm also applying to 30+ MD programs and 5other DO programs...I think I will see a rejection in 10 days.

Anyways...I answered "This information will be available in February (or whenever your last secondary is due)

Who told you that about adcoms? Applying to 20 schools is standard and doesn't imply you are using them, but rather that you want to get into a school. Only the most competitive applicants should apply to less and I'd think--especially since the adcoms are comprised of people who applied to med schools--would understand the game by now. And, I bet it is worse to leave number to their imaginations.

I also applied to ECU and was worried about this question, so I asked my pre-medical advisor what to do and he said to not worry about it and just list all of the schools I applied to, which was 15. I'm pretty sure that they don't take this into consideration when evaluating applications.

i wonder how harmful it would be to say 'if i answered this question it would undermine my rights as an applicant'

ECU interviews r closed file ....... the whole process is that you have 2 closed file interviews...then the file is sent to two other members and they evaluate just the file ..... so each file gets a total of 4 evaluations before being presented to the committee....so I don't think it matters greatly what you say for that question....AFAIK, I filled out as many as the box will hold without the scroll being activated.......

15 schools?
be glad its not 30-40 haha.
