I am really cosidering it because i never lived in the east before. i was in Cali and Wa state all my life. my choices were in btw boston, newyork, and philly. i did not get into all ivys from those states but i had the option to choose from all three of those states. However i wanted to stay away from Cali(even though i got accepted from a good cali d-school) for a while, i had enough of Hollywood, and easy kick back life(at least to me). Honestly, when i went to philly and checked out Temple, it was something totally new and exciting to me. I just had whole bunch of friends in Boston and NYC,, even though it sounds wrong i wanted to be somewhere where i can start from scratch.
Also, I choose Temple cause i want to be a GP and to my eyes Temple was the best clinical d-school out of all the many schools that i got to see.
Honestly i dont know wehre you are going for d-school, but you sound like a little prick that thinks you are the shhit. i bet ya that i scored higher in DAT and graduated from a much better college than you with good gpa.

maybe back in the days ignorants were people like KKK that judge you by your color. But today's ingorants are the ones that judge your intelligence. i even feel stupid replying to you, you are probably joking just like me right?

Oh man, I just schooled myself. My response wasn't about Temple the school - I think Temple's pretty awesome. I was just 100% sure that it was a private school, and that they didn't differentiate between in and out-of-staters. I just checked and the tuition is less for in-staters. My comment was more like "wow, you're going to temple, and you don't know its private." I'm a jerk, a jerkus magnus.

The green "financial aid procedures" paper from the acceptance packet states that the FAFSA deadline is March 1, 2005.

I received the deposit receipt and there it says that there is a student orientation on Aug. 25 and 26th. Maybe that's when the white coat ceremony is held? (if there is one).

I remember during my visit at Temple, Brian said that you could get in-state immediately if you bought property. I'm not positive though, it has been a while. Does anyone else remember this?? Also, does anybody know if out of staters get in-state status after the first year like they do in buffalo?

Thanks!

From what I remember, you do not get in-state status after one year. I think the only way to get the in-state tuition is to buy property, marry (PA res) or live in PA for 1 before school, while paying some taxes.

I bought property with my fiance and got in state tuition right off the bat for the first year.

I had looked into it a little bit, and it's pretty much like DMD says. You must buy property, pay taxes, and show that you are commited to staying in pennsylvania area beyond your four years of tooth school. That's why being married helps- they assume if you lay down roots with a wife and kids then you are more likely to stay. Also, you have to do this for a full year before you can apply for it, so you wouldn't get the state tuition till at least year 2.

HOWEVER, as per the people I discussed it with (including Brian), doing these things does not guarantee that they will grant you residency. You can reapply (yearly I think), and they may not give it to you one year, and then give it to you the next fairly arbitrarily. Which sucks of course, cause then you could have bought a house, have debt from that, and then not even save on tuition.

From the students I talked to at the school the only ones that were successful were the ones who were married. I got the general impression if you weren't, then it would be tough. If you ask Brian he can give you the emails of students who were successful at doing this, and they can tell you more about the process and clear up anything else about it. Good luck to ya, and enjoy Philly if that's where you end up- it's a great town.

Huh. I just saw this post after I put mine up, so I guess I'm wrong about the 1 year thing. Oh well. Maybe I'm wrong about the rest too. Maybe its easy to get 😀
