I have a quick question.
I got an interview letter from Temple, and it will be on 11/5.
I am kinda nervous cause i have no interview expirience.
Therefore, I was wondering whether anyone had interview with Temple before.
Any advice will beappreciated!!!

Aww, dang. congratulations on your interview. I applied there and I didn't get an interview, I definitely wont be getting an accpetance letter now since the interview is on Nov. 5th. Anyway, scroll to the top and in the search function type in "Physical Therapy Interview". There are plenty of questions from applicants experiences.

Heyy I applied there too but I didn't get an interview yet prob because my PTCAS hasn't been processed yet (it's been almost 2 weeks)...

If you don't mind, when did you turn in your PTCAs and how long did it take to process? and also what were your stats cuz i'm worried cuz I have low stats and I wanted to know to see if they'll even contact me later on o.o

GOOD LUCKK i'm sure you'll do well since you already heard from them for interviews :]

I'm assuming she's got pretty high stats. Overall at 3.4+ maybe. Temple may not be ranked (or ranked too low) but from what im reading they are a good school.

thanks for all your replies.
and good luck on all of your application too.🙂

i submitted my ptcas pretty early, i think it was around the end of july.
but i took my gre on august, but i did do well on the verbal part, i only got 340 on it. so, i think temple probability just look at math part on gre. i guess...

my stats-
GPA: 3.71
GRE: V340 Q750 AW3
100+ observation hours.

ya temple is all about numbers. they could careless about the quality of the student. you could basically bomb the interview and still be accepted. i had a meeting wit their head dude steve carp a couple months ago.

I know someone that got in with close to 1000 on GRE and 3.0 GPA. Does it have to do with the fact that he went to Temple for undergrad too? if not are you saying it's all out of luck for him? or maybe he did well in the interview despite his numbers.

Hmmmm... That's so weird. I got an email this morning inviting me for an interview on November 12. I really don't know what to think of it. I am going though. I have a 3.02 overall GPA.

Temple does rolling admissions, so this is how their process works..(as Steve Carp informed me). They receive applications and place them into one of 3 piles..One pile is "Guaranteed." Another pile is "Borderline." And last pile is "No Chance." They do this for every 100 applications they receive. Once they receive 100, they invite those in the "Guaranteed" and "Borderline" piles in for interviews. From here, they give MOST of the students acceptance letters, while less than half accept.

As for numbers, he really emphasized having a 1000 GRE as a minimum..that's the cutoff..Also they looked at Quant GRE heavily compared to verbal. THey put the Quant GRE + GPA + some other number in a formula to figure out which pile you fall into.

Whether they "favor" Temple undergrads over others I'm not sure, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt. They are also a diverse university, so if you are a minority, you have a better shot getting in.

Congrats. I'd go and check it out. I'm almost certain they do group interviews.

Everyone on here; don't worry and don't listent to all these other people who are saying numbers are EVERYTHING. The best thing you can do is stay positive.

When did you send your stuff in? Was it a quick reply back or did you have to wait a while?

Just guessing. But the guaranteed pile interview is Nov. 5 and the borderline pile interview is Nov. 12.

I have an interview for Temple on Nov 5th as well. The concept of a group interview is foreign to me, so that part will be interesting.

wow~so i will see you on 11/5, so excited!!!!!!!!
is it group interview???

Oh how I hope this is true!!! Im yellow

Me too! I definitely have a unique hue and saturation to my skin unlike any other, so I'm hoping it works in my favor!

Just guessing. But the guaranteed pile interview is Nov. 5 and the borderline pile interview is Nov. 12.

I'm not sure it works like that, with separating the "piles" so to speak. I think they just send out interview invites, but I'm not 100% sure on that one. You could be right

Agreed with Muscles here...I haven't heard back from them (PTCAS sent my app out 9/28 I believe) and my stats are high, so to speak,( 3.75 GPA, 790 Q, 520V, 4.5 AW) so I think FOR THIS ROUND, the interviews given are just for the earlier folks, meaning NOTHING about the rest of us who haven't heard anything.

So, everyone relax, and try to be patient (I know I'm trying to as well)

Is Temple your number one school? It is to me and it happened to be the only "reach" school I applied to...well with my stats, they're all reach schools actually.

Brenda and TheOx, please keep us updated with the interview.

They do group interviews: I was with 2 other applicants, a faculty member and a current student for mine. Search SDN for sample interview questions for allied health. Questions for my group were mostly taken from that. Congrats for getting an interview: it's a very competitive program!

The fact that you got an interview offer this soon is excellent. Dr. Carp is very upfront about when you'll hear back, your chances of getting in, etc, during the interview day. FYI, I got a sense during my day there that they prefer "team players" and wanted a group of students that would work well together as a class and support each other.

Good luck! 😀

Interviewed for the Class of 2013, last year. Mine was only a group interview, no individual session. Questions were based off the ones posted here on SDN, like-
* If you could have dinner with 5 people (living or dead) who would they be and why?
* What stresses you out and what do you do in order to cope during stressful situations?
* If you caught a peer cheating on a test, what would you do?
* Why PT and why at Temple?
etc....

Obviously, not all groups got the same questions. It's all up to who you have for the interview and what they decide to ask. I recommend prepping and downloading med school and allied health interview questions from this site and others. I think the interview portion lasted an hour or so, but I can't be for certain as it was a long time ago.

Good luck! :luck:

Congrats to those of you who got interviews and for those still waiting to hear have faith because last year interviews went well into the Spring. Our class (temple DPT 2013) has stats all over the place from what I can tell. We definitely have people at the high end but we have people who thought they didn't stand a chance. This actually makes us a great group with people that have different strengths.

Most people who interview are accepted so don't worry about when you get your interview - there are lots of factors involved in when you get an interview offer. I know people who were called into the first round of interviews who were not accepted so I am not sure about the definite/borderline breakdown idea.

Temple is very concerned about how you operate in a group and I think they do a great job of building a class that fits with the Temple culture. Make sure you are relaxed enough to let your personality show through - they will be looking for this and so will the current students who are part of the interview process.

The questions I had last year were pretty similar to the DPT interview lists I found on google. Be ready with examples from your life that you can use to answer a variety of questions about how you handle different situations. If you have questions about the program feel free to PM me and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can!

Best of Luck!

How did Temple notify you about your interview? Do they send you an e-mail?

Great feedback! Its good to actually hear from someone in the program. I will definitely try to heed your advice about the interview questions and letting my personality show.

Also, how large is the class of 2013?

Thanks everyone! I sent my things in a few weeks ago and haven't heard back yet. I'm getting nervous since Temple is my first choice.

i was accepted at temple and didnt interview until like march. pretty sure i was the last group to be interviewed though. dont worry there is still a ton of time.

cant hurt to follow up with carp every now and then to show him you have a sincere interest in their program. thats what i did and am fairly certain thats what gave me the edge. had i done nothing i honestly dont think i would have heard back.

Hey I was browsing through the forums and came across this post. I was wondering if anyone from the November 5th interview would be willing to share some information. I applied to Temple (and other schools) about two weeks ago and am beginning to prepare for possible interviews. Thanks

i went to the interview on 5th. be honestly, i dont know how i did on that. hope i can get in there!!!
first, they introduced the faculties, then we introduced ourselves.
then they put us in three groups and started the interview. it was like a group interview. they didnt ask tough questions, so dont be too nervous. after the interview was campus tour.
i like temple a lot, the faculties sound very supportive. and the way that students interact with faculties is just amazing!!!!!!!!!

Just got finished with the interview. Typing this up in the hotel room right now. The program is no doubt one of the best in the nation. Dr. Carp says they only interview about 120 people a year. There was about 40 of us today and about 30 from the 5th, what I've been told by some of the members of SDN who attended the interview last week. So that means about 50 more interviewees this cycle. Also Dr. Carp says that they are ranked 15th now according to the US news and world report. No doubt the program is amazing, the staff care so so so much about the students. The one thing that is turning me off is the location in the city. I've kept an open mind all along when I have PMed some members about Temple. I always knew the program was great and today it just reinforced my mind set. It truly is awesome. The medical library, cadaver lab, etc. But when members tell me it was in a bad part of town I kept telling myself that I'd have to judge for myself. But after I went a drove around the area, it soooo turns me off. Temple was definitely my number one school for sure, but I have moved it down, and still don't know which school replaces it. Maybe Shenandoah or Howard.

Oh I almost forgot, the interview. Sooooo laid back. Wasn't even asked any typical interview questions. (all depending who was interviewing you I guess). They asked me: what motto I live by, what do I do when I absolutely have too much on my plate and then it finally burst because I couldn't take it anymore, then we had this situation question that started with one of the applicants answering a question then the interviewer makes something up depending on the applicants answer and asks that question towards another applicant. Anyway, it lasted 1 hr. I only answered 3 questions because that's all they asked. In my group everyone had to answer the 1st two questions. In others groups each applicant was asked a different question from one another, never duplicating questions.

Lastly, I was really puzzled. Dr. Carp emphasized the GPA and GRE score being the main component in determing acceptances. I was puzzled because I have a 3.02 overall and a 3.0 science GPA.

thats bull****. he lied. they interview WAYYY more than 120 people a year. think about it.. the class size is around 55-65..no more than that..just by numbers alone, they HAVE to interview way more than 120 applicants. they interview hundreds of students. he even told me they interview a ton and give acceptances to most of them and only about 40% of those accept.

this isnt towards u bizzle but carp lied. the numbers just done make sense.

if temple is truly ranked 15th this year, that really says a lot about how meaningful the rankings actually are. pretty sure they were around 50th last year. how a school jumps that many spots in a single year is beyond me....really puts the credibility of these ranking into question.

and muscleGT is probably right. i know they continue to interview people all the way into the end of winter/beginning of spring (interviewed last year in the first week of march). they are still going to interview a lot people.

Thanks...uhhh...both muscles. I don't know. I am torn, feeling kind of helpless. Temple really made me feel so comfortable and they Seemed very caring. But the area....

Musclehead, you were soo right about the area.

Musclegt, they do just look at numbers. I don't think the interview counts very much in their decisions process.

We'll see what happens with their decisions. Im here posting worrying about Temple and I haven't even been accepted yet. And yeah, everything I've posted was just a regurgitation of what I heard yesterday. However, I'm pretty sure they will have 50-52 students next year.

Musclehead- how many people are in your class at TJU? Maybe I'm just being naive and think that temple is the only program that is caring/supportive because that's the only school I've gone to visit. For all I know, the other schools are just as caring and supportive.

Thanks guys.

we had 48 in the beginning, 2 dropped out because they decided it wasnt for them.

Just wanted to say that rankings are pretty useless but Temple was 41st last year - not sure if 15th place this coming year is accurate but Temple has been in the top 10 for many many years and only saw a drop recently which they expect will be corrected in the near future.

I am not sure how many people we interview total but I know that the acceptance rate is 50% which is pretty average considering each applicant applies to 9-10 schools. We consistently take 50 people or just over so the number of 120 sounds pretty accurate to me. We have interviewed about 60-70 so far and won't be doing any again until mid January.

As for the neighborhood it is what it is. I feel safe there - we look out for each other - plus we don't get distracted because there are no bars or things to wander into. I thought it would be worse than it is but after a few weeks no one seems to mind. You park right on campus, go to class or the gym, eat on campus, study on campus and go home. People hang out together outside of school they just meet up other places in the city.

Bizzle - if there is anything that would help you get a better feel for safety on campus let me know. Good Luck!

ajune,

Thanks for clarifying up those specific "issues". It's always good to hear from people who are going through the process, specifically when they are in a program that you are applying to.

Glad my comments are helpful - this board was so much help to me when I applied so I figured I would return the favor! PM if you need anything.

has anybody gotten invitations the second round of interviews in january? i applied and didnt get a first round interview.. but still trying to keep positive haha

I strongly believe the reason why I got invited for an interview on the 12th was because I applied EARLY, not because of my stats lol.

When did you apply? My apps were sent off September 13 and I still have not heard from them. I'm not too concerned with an interview from them though if they do it till spring, but it would be nice to know soon.

I applied relatively early in the application cycle as well. I sent PTCAS my info by 8/30/2010. It was mailed out to my schools(Temple being one of them) by 9/21/2010. I think what jbizzle is referring to is the rolling admissions process. It just seems that the earlier you get your application in, even if you are not necessarily confident in your stats compared to those of your peers, it works in your favor because schools want to get those slots filled. This is, of course, provided that you at least have a "solid" academic background. Best wishes to you throughout the rest of the application process!👍

Ox is right! I e-submitted on 8/19/2010 and since I submitted so early (not as congested as it is now) they processed all my stuff in 5 days and mailed mine out 8/25/2010. I was really looking to get it sent early for rolling admissions. I knew I didn't have a chance going against other applicants who have better stats!

APPLY EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did apply pretty early... So I thought haha. I e-submitted 8/30 and it was sent out 9/14. Probably a little later than some other people. I was hoping to get it in early for the rolling admissions, but I am not worrying too much. I figure if I get an interview I get one, if not, it won't be the end of the world. I was just curious as to when all of you guys yours off, so thanks a ton for the help!

I heard back for a Dec 9 interview

Yes! I have an interview at the end of January! I was quite surprised to get one since I didn't hear back from them about receiving my completed application; I had to email them and ask. I have heard really good things about the program and in the end, all that matters is if whether they can adequately prepare students for working as competent PT's. Thanks for all the info on this forum; it has really helped me learn more about the school. I am in the process of preparing for the interview.
