Student housing at the TUSPM dorms are apartment style housing. Students will have an option of choosing either a studio, 1 bedroom apt, 2 bedroom apt, or 3 bedroom apt. Obviously, 2 and 3 bedroom apts would involved having one or two roommates. Usually, the studio and 1 bedroom apts are not easy to obtain for incoming first year students since they are popular with the upper classmen. However, a few lucky first years do get one of these apts. The housing fee does include electricity. I am not sure if phone service is included or not. Each apt is equiped with window based AC/Heating units. Of course, each apt also has its own kitchen, living room, and bathroom (in addition to the bedrooms). There are laundry facilities and storage lockers available for student use on each floor. There is also a residential TV lounge on the ground floor next to the Student Affairs office for residents to use. There is also a study lounge as well on the ground floor, but, this is open to all students at TUSPM. Lastly, each apt does come fully furnished with furniture (sofa, dining table with chairs, twin size bed in each bedroom and desk in each bedroom), basic appliance (stove and fridge). In terms of cost, you will have to check with Student Affairs office. Hopefully, this helps.

There are affordable housing options located in the Chinatown section of Philadelphia. You can look out for some of the available apts on 9th street between arch and race streets. Most of these apts are two bedrooms with washer/dryer and central AC in the apts. These apts are located right around the corner from school.

In terms of nicer places to live, you may want to consider Old City, Society Hill, Art Museum area, and along Walnut, Locust, Spruce, Pine Streets. These often offer very nice housing options but they can be rather expensive. You may also consider the East Falls, Manayunk, Roxborough, Andorra, Northeast Philly (upper section is nice and but the lower section is not so nice), Chestnut Hill areas of Philadelphia. Many students choose these areas because they are accessible by public transportation and driving. Manayunk is a really nice place for single people to live due to a large amount of bars in the area. If you have kids, many of the students tend to live in the suburbs or in New Jersey. The school districts out there are better than the ones in Philadelphia. The school is very close to various train stations and bus stops. I would recommend that you avoid areas in North Philadelphia, South Philly, Southwest Philly, Kensington, Port Richmond, certain parts of West Philly, etc... If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I live in the Northwest section of Philadelphia myself.

Wow great information. Thanks DPMGRAD.
