I will be starting Temple in the Fall, and I received a packet that said I should start collecting teeth to bring with me the first week of class. For all you Temple d-students out there, how many teeth do we have to bring??? : 😕

In the packet it says to fill up a quart size container.

anyone going to temple that may come up short of a quart let me know.. I have my father (general dentist) and buddy (oral surgeon) collecting. I should have some to spare when class begins.

I was told, that we don't need to bring the quart size jar of teeth to orientation.

Not to hijack this thread, but hows everyones housing search going.

are u guys serious abt this?

wait, so we don't have to bring the jar to orientation? Damn, I was really excited about carrying my jar around with me all day...

on a lighter note, housing in manayunk looks pretty awesome (i'm from philly and thats def my preference)...

I have been looking at manayunk roxborough. I think I like Henry on the Park so far, but I'll be out there may 1-3 to find out!

My dad has been collecting teeth for me since february (OMS) and he pulls quite alot all week so I think I'll be good. I'll have lots of extra teeth too.

I don't know what you're referring too, but if it's about needing extracted teeth for dental school ,then YES! You practice on them in preclinics.

Thats good you'll have extra teeth because you'll be hooking me up with some

sure thing buddy...five bucks a tooth for you! j/k

Henry on the Park... that's looking like the spot for my wife and I too... there are a couple others just like it in the same area so it will just come down to who has an opening when we can get in.... I live in the philly area as well and am selling my house to get closer to school, that and my wife loves that area so she will be like a pig in sh#t.

I'm a current first-year at Temple and while yes you should collect your teeth, you won't need them until the second semester. Also if you have trouble obtaining teeth there will be several go-getters in every class that will have about a thousand extras, and if that doesn't work there are currently at least ten jars of teeth around the pre-clinic for all to use. If any of you new enrollees have any questions about anything feel free to email and i'll help however I can.

I went down in late February to check out the general areas surrounding the school. I'm currently thinking about living in Center City instead of out in the area by Henry on the Park. I don't want the hassle of a car down at school so living in Center City would be ideal. The only draw back is that it will cost more to live downtown, but hopefully this will be offset by not having a car to worry about.

great point about the car.. and yes, there are some really great places in the city... I would jsut wish you luck with the septa schedules... public transportation in philly is still something to be desired unfortunately... but the city has a great atmosephere when you hit the right spots... just thinking of Gino's and Pat's makes my mouth water.... mMMMmmmm.. cheese steak... time to drive into the city....
ohh and you'll catch me in the golf simulator at Henry... eff the pool!!

Very true... I live in Center City, and unless you're very used to living in a house, or have kids, I think it's the place to be hands down.

Public transportation is pretty bad here, but if you make sure to live within a comfortable walking distance of Broad St., you can easily take the subway to school. Otherwise, Philadelphia is definitely a walkable town.

Having a car is nice but not a neccesity. If you don't have one, just join Philly Car Share, where you can book a car during the week for errands, etc. Its about $300 or so to join (for insurance), but has a very reasonable hourly rate.

Due to some scheduling conflicts, I can't make it to look for housing until the FIRST week of JULY!!!!!!! Am I screwed and will there be anything left? Or just slim pickins?

PS Please help as I do not want to live in a place where I'll have to dodge bullets or run 10 miles to board the bus/subway!

(Also, Henry on the Park is VERY VERY expensive, no?)

yeah henry on the park would be considered the upper end of the rental scale, luckily my wife works full time as a graphic artist, so ill be able to suppliment with my loans to meet the $$ it costs to live there. I would say that you may ahve slim pickins on the more affordable housing since that would be the first to go, but you should be able to find something fairly nice in july... but the cost may be higher since most of the cheaper places will be taken early

Anybody get anything from financial aid lately???
Got a letter asking for my W2s, about it..
HD

supposedly financial aid will be sent out sometime in June... got the letter about W2's as well, make sure you sign your federal return even though its a copy same with your parents, the lady told me many forget and they have to send them back to you to get signed... so keep that in mind before sending it all in.
