If you want to be a GP, Temple is THE place to go. Temple does, however, have a very high matching rate into specialties as well but most students usually go GP. Penn is more of a "research oriented" school meaning their program is more geared towards specializing or academia. If you know you want to specialize, then Penn is the place to go. Don't get me wrong, several Penn students go the GP route but, from what I here, they usually go GPR or AEGD for another year or so before actually working. Temple students have been known to go straight into the field after graduation because of the extensive experience they get while at school (Temple: 144,000 patients last year compared to Penn: 57,000). Both are great schools but it really depends on what you are looking for. Yes Temple is in a very run-down neighborhood but that is the main reason they get so many patients. Also, I believe the tuition is a little cheaper at Temple. The two schools are two completely different animals so the best thing to do is to go to your interviews and determine what is best for you but if you have any questions in the mean time, don't hesitate. Good luck.
