I have an interview at Temple on Oct. 15. How is this school as an institution? I researched in books but I haven't heard much about this school. Also how is the interview?

i would like to know how selective is Temple in sending interview invitations. The reason is that my friend received an invitation without having taken his DAT. This makes me think that Temple is not very selective.

If this is the case, I won't accept the invitation for my interview 10/31. I am from CA and it seems that it would be wiser to save my money for schools at the top of list.

nyla,

Temple is regarded as one of the best clinical schools. They have a huge patient pool and very good clinics. However, be sure to watch your back when your walking outside, cuz Temple is located in North Philly (which isn't the most desirable place to be in the city). As for interview stuff for Temple, refer to past threads, as that subject has been covered quite extensively.

Good Luck

That has nothing to do with selectivity. If Temple accepted him, then yes, they arent selective. You have to understand that schools give out interviews to see if they want to furthur act upon an application. An interview does not guarantee an acceptance. Temple has nothing to lose by giving your friend an invite. If anything they gain from his application fees. If they end up not liking his DAT scores, then they'll reject him (with no harm done to Temple).

I think you misunderstood my question.

Please think about "what is the purpose of an interview?"

No...not for the school to take money...

No...not to evaluate an applicant prematurely before his file is complete (e.g. no DAT score)

...among other factors...the purpose to consider an applicant admissions based on complete understanding of his ability (GPA +DAT) based on what he wrote on his paper application.

How does Temple compare with UPenn? Does anyone know which school is superior clinically, or any have other details that may distinguish the two? I have upcoming interviews with both. Thanks!

If you want to be a GP, Temple is THE place to go. Temple does, however, have a very high matching rate into specialties as well but most students usually go GP. Penn is more of a "research oriented" school meaning their program is more geared towards specializing or academia. If you know you want to specialize, then Penn is the place to go. Don't get me wrong, several Penn students go the GP route but, from what I here, they usually go GPR or AEGD for another year or so before actually working. Temple students have been known to go straight into the field after graduation because of the extensive experience they get while at school (Temple: 144,000 patients last year compared to Penn: 57,000). Both are great schools but it really depends on what you are looking for. Yes Temple is in a very run-down neighborhood but that is the main reason they get so many patients. Also, I believe the tuition is a little cheaper at Temple. The two schools are two completely different animals so the best thing to do is to go to your interviews and determine what is best for you but if you have any questions in the mean time, don't hesitate. Good luck.
