I was interviewed at temple on 11/19 and upenn 11/21. 'Have already posted them.

Temple
what everyone has said on this forum is accurate:
-bad neighborhood but safe during the day
-facility is kinda old. classrooms are old. the stairways are reeked with the smell of urine.
but
-definitely you'll get a superb clinical education. No doubt, you'll be able to practice right after graduation.

Upenn
-not sure you'll come out a good general practitioner because the school is 100% into research and specialty programs.
-expensive, expensive
-clinics not that impressive.
-seems like they spend more $ on specialty programs than pre-clinic and pre-doctoral.

but
Upenn is Ivy League
that's just my opinions.

futureD,
I would def have to disagree with you on a few points with Upenn. I am in the classs in 007 and Penn def has a rep for research but they dont push it at all. If you dont want to do any, you dont have to. You are also going to be an excellent gen practitioner or have a great chance to specialize. We are 1 or 13 schools ( I think ) that uses dent sim so you are practicing drilling right away and are a lot better at it then people that didnt use dent sim. Trust me a lot of people are against dent sim (mostly upperclassman0 becuase they have all had a chance to use them and we are scoring better than them on basic cavity preps, becuase they are used to being graded easier. And to extend that we have to use mannequin heads in GRD now instead of the articulators/dentiforms. This is going to make it even harder as you cant move the heads any which way like you can with the articulators. Also they are redoing the school and are only about 1/2 through. But I would have to agreee with the expensive thing.

I guess I'll chime in as the Temple guy. Off campus is not Disneyland but I haven't had any problems whatsoever to this day. Classrooms are old but only in the old dental school building(yes that's what it's really called). We do, however, take some classes in the med school building and they are much more up to date there (wireless access, etc). The preclinic, where we spend a lot of time the first two years is very modernized as well. Over all, you don't spend too much of your time in the old dental school building so it's not too bad. Oh, and I apologize for the urine in the stairway...I had to go real bad and there was a long line in the bathroom.
