They all are really expensive schools, but does anyone have any insight on which is worth the price tag? How is the curriculum and research opps for each?

Drexel and Temple are in kind of scary areas of Philadelphia. Jefferson is in Center City, which is a pretty good part of Philly. Their administration, at least during the admissions process, is very prompt and responsible, and their students seem enthusiastic about the curriculum and the school in general, so of the three, I would definitely pick Jefferson. Hope that helps.

What are three schools on my list for this cycle?

In all seriousness, beware of Drexel's Wall of Silence during admissions. Sometimes applications get lost.

Jefferson has the best hospital if you care.

Jefferson has been historically the most respected, but I feel like Temple is on the up and up. Drexel is certainly the least respected out of the 3. I know a few people at Jefferson and Temple. Everyone at Temple loves it while 1/2 the people at Jefferson like it.

Jefferson is in a nicer part of the city. Drexel is in the suburbs, sorta.

Temple has a new medical teaching and research facility being built as we speak. It will be ready in 2009. Thus, I think Temple is on the upswing. There are benefits to having a hospital in a ghetto... you see the coolest stuff around and progressed disease states, etc.

I don't know a lot about the other schools. IMHO, take everyone's word on here with a grain of salt. SDN is notorious for bashing schools located in bad parts of cities and praising counterpart schools like Drexel and Jefferson. Truth is all three of these schools are a wash. If you apply to one... might as well apply to all three. If you get into one of them you better go to. If you get into more than one then maybe post something like this.

Penn and UPitt may be the only slightly better PA schools. But really... the education is in the student's hands not the school's... you make of it what you want.

second this, with no real knowledge. As far as the city goes, Jefferson is in a nice part of center city, very safe. Drexel is in a more suburban area of the city, East Falls, that has some nice and very not so nice areas all very close to each other. The governor lives in this part of the city. I think right around Drexel has gotten a little safer over the last couple years. Temple is straight up hood, but also easy to get to with public transportation, both the subway and regional rail, meaning you get the interesting aspect of learning medicine in the inner city, but don't really need to live there. I've heard great things about Temple, but wouldn't wander too far at night.

Thanks everyone. Seems like Jefferson has the reputation and location vote. I only ask because I`m submitting my AMCAS to only a small list of schools initially. I`ll add more later, but I`d rather be the early bird on the "better" school and research more later. Does anyone have an idea about the research opportunities at any of these 3? Any other input is appreciated

Thanks again!

Ive worked with students and residents from all three.

Jeff is the way to go.

Temple next, then Drexel.

Just my humble opinion.

Drexel Med School is actually up near Manyunk, north/eastish of the city. Temple is straight-up in the ghetto. I was a missionary there, and two blocks off campus I watched some hoodrat bust the window of a car with a crowbar and reach in to take something. He looked up and saw us watching, gave us the bird, and kept right on taking his sweet time.

I vounteered at TJU hospital and was VERY impressed. I think Temple is a good school with some killer clinical opportunities, though. Drexel? meh.

Between Temple and TJU- think hard about what you're looking for in a school.

Seriously, don't let Drexel's location scare you. DO let Temple's location scare you, but realize that public trans is readily available and you don't have to live there.... you just have to walk to the SEPTA station after dark.

If you live in the Philadelphia area, Jefferson wins hands down. It is a toss up between Temple and Drexel. Drexel has had financial problems in the past. You could be happy at any of the three.

Philly's pouring tons of money into N. Broad St. Be wary though, it's still not a walk in the park.

I did get a better vibe from Jeff and Temple students though. Just my opinion.

Based on hospitals, happiness of students, and which area of philly
