Hey guys,

So I have narrowed down my acceptances to Temple and Maryland.

Temple is my state school and close to home, and while not in the greatest location it will provide alot of clinical experience.

Maryland's new facilities and state of the art technology makes it a great choice for me and very hard to turn down.

I felt so comfortable at both, and I am having a hard time deciding between the two. Anyone who has input it would be greatly appreciated.

Also...

At this point I want to specialize, will either program give me an edge over the others?

A little confused on what to do....

anything would help guys 🙂

i go to Maryland and know nothing about Temple. I 😍 Maryland .. people around here are probably sick of me saying that, but you asked for it 😛

jb!🙂

Program quality does not even compare. And if you say you want to go on to anything past GP then do not go to Temple. there was like 5 kids going further out of like 100 somthing..... Umaryland has all brand new stuff also

Don't know too much about Maryland, but Temple has an excellent reputation for turning out some of the best clinicians in the entire country. If you want to be confident coming out as a practicing dentist, you can't go wrong. They have some of the highest clinical requirements, and you will see a very large amount of patients over the course of your time there. Many students go right into private practice or join in with an associate.

Keeping this in mind, the school is not for everybody. Clinical experience is it's forte for sure, and it is probably one of the best clinical schools in the country. If you want research or academics, you may want to look elsewhere. It's kind of a hard-ass area too in Philly, so if you have thin skin it would probably not be for you.

Maryland is most likely an excellent school as well, so keep an open mind and choose what will make you happy/satisfied for your future plans as a dentist.

As someone who was accepted to both, I would say hands down go Maryland. Pretty much any dental curriculum is based in halves; the first two years preclinic and the last two, clinic. At Temple, they flat out tell you, if you want the technology do not go there. Maryland, on the other hand, has a seamless transition b/t simulation lab and clinic (you use identical handpieces, operatories, etc.). At the same time, Maryland isn't 'keeping you out of clinic,' but rather lets you start doing perio and occlusion projects in clinic in the first semester. Lets be realistic, though Temple prides itself in clinic, they aren't giving you patients and letting you do operative your first year...

Don't be mistaken, Maryland brings a lot more to the table than technology. You also have a great environment with helpful and approachable faculty. It also helps that you're not in a dingy basement building in a horrible area of town, toting around a huge cart of instruments. Think about where you want to spend 40+ hours a week...

I go to Temple and think its a great school. If you choose Temple you definitely won't get all the fancy technology that everyone is talking about, so if thats what your looking for you better go to Maryland. You will get all the clinical experience you need if you come to Temple. The clinic is jammed packed with patients everyday and there are waitlists to be seen. Check out this link, its written by a second year Temple student, its all about his dental adventures.👍
