I've been fortunate enough to receive acceptances at these two schools (Temple and NYMC). I have already submitted my deposit at Temple, although upon receiving an acceptance to NYMC, I am now strongly considering this school. I do not want to hold multiple acceptances, so I am trying to decide ASAP!

NYMC:
Pros- Near NYC, can do rotations in the city, housing on campus, close knit community, beautiful campus and facilities, great match rates
Cons- More expensive, Valhalla is not the most exciting town

Temple:
Pros- 10k scholarship (cheaper of the two), living in Philly is exciting, great reputation, beautiful facilities
Cons- Housing is not walkable distance to campus, not sure of match rate, will have to move after first year to Bethlehem (St.Luke's program), rotation site options are limited

Any input is greatly appreciated 🙂

If finances play a role, why don't you hold both acceptances and wait for financial aid to come out - many schools will distribute letters, or, at the very least, estimates, by mid-April.

Thanks for the input everyone!
And my main concern with holding multiple acceptances is that I am still banking on a few other schools for an II. If they see that I am holding multiple acceptances, that might deter an II.

I don't believe that is how it works. Schools do not see your acceptances until much later, but not sure exactly when. It shouldn't have any bearing on your chance for more II.

They don't see them until April 1. You'd be fine. I'm holding mine until FA comes out.

I haven't heard many positive things about NYMC (one of my friends just started her first year there). I would say that your best bet is Temple!
Thanks for the reply! What have you heard so far (if you dont mind me asking)

I've heard questionable things about its association with Touro... like it's a for profit medical school? Not sure about that because I chose not to apply there and did not look further into it. My friend has been coming home (Boston area) almost every weekend so I don't think she's happy there at all, but n=1. I saw that you were also accepted to Drexel, and I've heard its of the same caliber (reputation/ranking wise).
Thanks for this! And yeah I was not a fan of Drexel at all, but to each his own! I did get the same vibe at NYMC. I was mainly attracted to its proximity to NYC. But in the big scheme of things, being close to NYC isn't going to make me a better doctor... it's merely just a small personal preference.

Good luck with wherever you decide! You and I have had really similar cycles (school lists, GPA, MCAT, PA residents, etc)
Have you made any decisions yet? And thanks for the help. My gut has told me to go with Temple from the start. I really love the program.

I was accepted to Geisinger and turned them down. I've also been accepted to Drexel and Jefferson. Out of those two, I will likely choose Jefferson. Sadly, I am on the waitlist for Temple (I also really liked it there) and SUNY Downstate. I interviewed at BU and Ohio State and I'm still waiting for their decisions.
Best of luck! I interviewed at Geisinger and withdrew post interview because I didn't like the school. I was accepted to Drexel, NYMC, and PSU, along with Temple, which I liked the best.

Waiting to hear from a few schools as well. Best of luck with your decision!!! Jealous of the BU interview... that was one of my top schools but I was rejected pre-II. Still waiting to hear from Dartmouth and Tufts regarding IIs!

Sorry your friend is having a bad time, but plenty of us love NYMC.

Touro is a not-for-profit Jewish university based in NYC. 30 seconds on Google can tell you that.

Future applicants might see this post. It is irresponsible to spread misinformation about a school that successfully educates, graduates, and matches hundreds of doctors every year.

I don't know much about NYMC but I interviewed at Temple and absolutely loved it. From the facilities to the friendliness of students and faculty. As far as the housing situation goes, I talked to one of the current medical students about it and she seemed to be very content with living about 15 minutes from campus and did not see it as being a disadvantage or anything.

Sounds like you are already leaning Temple. I too have heard not so great things about NYMC from a current M2 there ...
