I have been accepted to both Temple University and Rush University and I was hoping that I could get some feedback about the pros and cons of each school in terms of rankings, student life, education, etc. I've been going back and forth for almost 2 months and I'm stuck. Maybe if there are any students out there at the 2 school you can give me an insider's opinion.

Thanks!

I have relatives in North Philly. If you attend Temple, you should keep in mind that it involves a substantial risk to your well being. My aunt was in Temple Univ Hospital and we were told not to walk more than 1 block away from the hospital. They have big spotlights everywhere and cameras. People don't stop for red lights. A friend of mine who goes to temple has been robbed. I don't know much about Rush.

I can't answer this for you, but Temple has so much potential right now. Especially with the new building.

Lifelong philly resident here:

The Temple campus is safe. The 'bad' side is obviously there might be unsafe areas around, but being an inner city hospital has big advantages while learning. You're going to get unsafe areas almost anywhere - but Temple campus is very safe. There are train, bus and subway stations right on campus that'll get you anywhere you need to go. The 'substantial risk' part is way over played. It's not that bad. Don't walk randomly around outside of campus grounds at 2AM, just like you wouldn't at Rush or anywhere else. You'll be fine. No, it's not like Jefferson in terms of its placement, but UPENN isn't located in the safest area either (west philly). But the campus itself is very safe, same as Temple.

I can't help you regarding your choice, but I don't think safety should be the reason you rule out Temple.

who is neil peart? to the OP: i wrote about rush extensively in the secondary thread. i don't know much about temple since i haven't interviewed there but i loved rush, go check out the reasons why!

oh wait are we talking about the band.

bingo.

and yes, neil peart is the greatest drummer alive.

loudest outdoor concert i ever went to. real close seats... he was wearing some weird african robe...i remember it like it was, um, 1998 or something.

to the OP, go to rush...unless you like Temple more. i'm biased b/c i'm in chicago and know nothing about anything. plus, i think geddy lee teaches a bass music therapy class now

I go to Temple, and I can tell you that before I actually was on campus, I herd stories like this all the time. Its not until you actually get on campus that you realize its safe. I wouldn't recommend going a couple blocks off campus at 3 in the morning, but I've been alone on campus walking back to my room at all hours of the night and felt completly safe. There are security guards on almost every block, so basically you're never really out of sight of a security guard. If you do feel threatened, there are also blue polls that have an emergency button them everywhere. You just run to them and press the button, and in no time the police on their bikes are at your location. They have police officers patrolling in crusiers, on bikes, and on foot 24/7. Basically, don't let stories like that discourage you from coming to Temple, because as long as you don't do something stupid, like leave campus in the middle of the night, you will be fine.

I am from Chicago, Rush is a good reputable school in Chicago's Illinois Medical District which has about five to six hospitals within a few blocks. It has a high concentration of medical professionals. The area around is quite safe because of recent renovations and development projects.
