Temple vs. SUNY@Buffalo
Hey guys,

I've been accepted to both (thank goodness) and can't make up my mind which school to go to. Here's what I see so far:

Temple:
Good
Awesome hands on, tons of patients to practice on, and will be ready for the boards after 3rd year. They also have a joint DMD-MBA Program that I'm interested in.
Bad
Location

SUNY@Buffalo
Good
Awesome Board scores and better atmosphere. 12K less per year as well. Easier to establish in state residency after the first year.

Bad
Snow

Tell me what you guys think...any input would be appreciated from people who are going to or have knowledge of these schools.

I personally goto SUNY Buffalo just because the cost is quite cheaper. And it is in a better area unlike Temple. The only thing good about Temple is the amount of patients they get. There seems to be NO college life there and nothing to do. To me Money and the life of Dental School are the most important deciding factors.

If I had to choose from those 2. I would def go to Buffalo.

So you are looking for college life and you choose Buffalo? Ummm....yah...good choice buddy...we all know that Buffalo is the place to be!!!

Hey AKAawesome....dont listen to Rocky, he's an idiot...if you are going to base your decision on Temple's area, then I dont think its a rational decision. During your interview, you remember they were telling you that all students live in Roxborough and East Falls...10-15 mins from the school?? Did you go and actually see those places?? I dont think so, otherwise you wouldnt be saying the area is bad. I dont blame you. After my interview, I went straight home and didnt check anything out. But i returned to see the residential areas.

Trust me...the area is GORGEOUS!! Surrounded by Fairmount park, with its endless forests and creeks. TOTALLY different than the TEmple campus. Have you checked out Main St. in Manayunk located in these student areas?? I dont think so. Its full of restaurants, bars, trendy coffee shops, and overrun with students.

People who always bash Temple cause of the area is just talking **** anyways. Lets see...hmm...your at school from 8-5, and then afterwards, the first thing you want to do is stay at school for longer....right? WRONG! Wherever you go, you want get the hell out of there after 5. And at Temple, you go home into a NICE apartment in a BEAUTIFUL area. If you dont believe me, do what I did. Go back to Philly and check out the area yourself...

BUT....Buffalo is also a GREAT school and the money you save on tuition will be big. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for tuition, goto Buffalo. If you are looking for a better student life, goto Temple. With both schools, you cant go wrong with your education! Just dont base your decison on Temple just because of its area, cause its not right.

If you want to go GP, then there is no substitute for hands on experience. The experience you get at Temple's clinics are equivalent to or better than some GPR's because of not only the quantity of cases but also the variety and magnitude of some of the things you will see. At the same time, money is a very important factor. You can get residency after one year at Temple but only if you BUY property. Also, you said you were interested in the DMD/MBA program and you wanted a good "college life"? Sorry. You better choose one cause those two unfortunately don't go together. 8-5? Try 8-8 school days 4 out of 5 days. 14 finals second semester sophmore year sound rough? Try 18. You WILL be spending most of your weekends studying not only for the rough dental courses but also for the added MBA classes (most of which you don't need to run a practice anyways but that's another story). BTW, there are plenty of things to do around here and as Avingupta so passionately stated, there are plenty of nice areas outside the school. Tough choice. If you knew you were going GP and want the best experience go to Temple. If you're not sure what you want to do, then I think SUNY would be a good choice solely on the fact that you will be saving tons of $$$. Good choice either way. Just my $.02.

Obviously avingupta is gonna say goto Temple because he is going there. He seems to have an opinion about everything. Needed or not, he seems to throw his two cents in...... Anyways both schools have pros and cons. Suny@Buffalo is cheaper and Temple has a huge patient pool. These are main pros of each school......the choice is up to you!

If you actually read my post ******, you would have seen that I didnt say goto Temple, I just told him not to base his decison on Temple because of its area cause its not the whole story. I told him that he cant go wrong with both schools.

BUT, I WAS just pointing out your stupid comment that student life at Temple is non-existent, and I found that funny. Especially since you were comparing it to the Party Central that is Buffalo, NY!

my mistake Tom....and plus, you got Toronto so close to Buffalo, so social life in Buffalo would be there....just gotta find it! 😛
