Temple Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Would you mind sharing your stats? I am applying to Temple next year and would like to know where my stats stand as far as waitlist/acceptance. I am only applying to Temple.

Undergrad major: Psychology
GPA - 3.74
Pre-req GPA - 3.8
GRE: V152 Q150 Writing-3.5
Observation Hours: 100+ at three different settings
Extra Curriculars: Psi Chi (honors society), intramural sports, and work all throughout college and after

Best advice I can give you- APPLY EARLY. I applied really late and got waitlisted. Also, get exposure to many different areas of the field. And one more thing..IF you have the time I would go through the process of volunteering as you can actively be involved in the field instead of just observing (ex-I volunteered and took on the role of a rehab aide in the hand therapy clinic at a hospital and got to work alongside the therapists and patients).

I hope this helps. Good luck and if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks Tinals, I would appreciate and feedback you have on my stats.

I took A&P I (C ) and A&P II (C+) & Lifespan (C+) I am currently retaking Lifespan and A& P I (going to have an A in both) am also taking A&PII in the fall (will this hurt my application, retaking these classes) with Abnormal Psyc (never took). That will complete my prereqs. My current stats:

Major: BA Psychology 2011
Overall GPA: 3.27
Last 60 credits: 3.9 (still taking)
Pre-Req GPA: 3.9-4.0 (but still have yet to take several prereqs...)
GRE: taking this summer (any suggestions?)

I plan to apply to Temple and possibly Phila U and Salus U but I really would like to get into Temple. I am currently doing my shadow hours on the weekends. I plan to have about 60 hours (in two different settings) by July/August. I have 180 intern/volunteer hours at a center for Autism.

Thanks!

I personally think re-taking your prereqs will look good as it shows you are motivated to do better in order to get into school..thats just my opinion though.

GRE: I am terrible at these standardized tests, so I was happy just to score around the 50th percentile. I practiced and practiced for about 3 months and I used this site called Magoosh GRE to help with my review.
1) Verbal- learn as many vocab words as possible. I used a variety of sources like Barron's essential words for the GRE (book), Dictionary GRE words on Word Dynamo (website), and whatever I could get my hands on. You will see many of the same words on the different sources.
2) Math- Try to figure out certain problems that you are consistently getting wrong and figure out why you are getting them wrong. Google the problems if you have to.
3) Writing- I didn't prepare much for this, but I found it helpful to review templates on how you should set the paragraphs up. Practice a few writing prompts.
4) Also, when you feel more comfortable with the GRE problems I would start practicing them under timed conditions. This is important as it mirrors how the actual test will be. At first I HATED practicing for the GRE, but once you start to get the problems correct the review becomes better. Lastly, if you wait last minute to study for the GRE, then concentrate on your strengths and make sure you have those types of problems down pat.

Your overall GPA is below average, but your last 60 credits and prereqs GPA look great. I think your volunteer and observation hours are good as well. Working with Autistic individuals is definitely a plus. So now all you need is to do well on the GRE, apply early, and write a good essay. You should get in with no problem.

P.S-- the whole application process is SO stressful!! But I promise you all the hard work is worth it.

Thank you for all the helpful tips! I really appreicate it. I am stressed already 🙁 so I can only imagine.

So, I got off the waitlist and accepted to Temple! HOWEVER, this was last Wednesday when I spoke to them and admissions has still not sent me my paperwork. I talked to someone from admissions this past Monday (5/13) and she said I would recieve all paperwork by email no later than Wednesday (5/15). Well, I haven't gotten anything and people are impossible to get in touch with over there. Anyone else having this problem??

You should call the department directly. Jacquee is extremely nice.

I have called the department directly and talked to Jacquee. She is the one who told me I should get my paperwork this past Wednesday, but since I never got it I have been trying to get ahold of her all week. Very frustrating, but I'm hoping all will work out.

They've assigned a "buddy" for each new student so maybe she directs her attention more on other things now. If I remember correctly there are a couple days in a week that she actually works on the main campus rather than the health campus. If you just want to see the emails regarding the requirements like physical exam, the background check, the CPR etc, I can forward them to you. Just pm me your email address. Once she adds you to the Facebook group, you can join the conversations new students have about subway passes, living arrangements...

You may even be able to just search facebook for the group and the request to be added. That's how I found it. It's called "Temple MOT Class of 2015". Good luck!

Hey, I was just wondering, when did you apply to Temple? Their deadline for the '14 cycle is February 1st and I noticed they're rolling. I was hoping to apply by early January. Do you think this would be too late? Thanks!

Is anyone else waitlisted for summer 2015? Or know when to expect to hear updates?

Yea I actually got an e-mail last Monday saying that they wanted to schedule a phone interview. I had the interview on Friday and found out today I've been accepted! It moved really quickly. Before that I hadn't heard anything since being told I was waitlisted in January.

I emailed Temple about two weeks ago and told them I was declining their offer, but they just sent an email asking again this past week (maybe they didn't get my first one…) and I confirmed I'm declining. Hopefully this opens up another spot! Seems like they're getting in touch with people they accepted who haven't confirmed or denied, so I feel like there will be a lot of movement in the next couple of weeks.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the update! Did you accept an offer elsewhere? Good luck to you!

Thank you! And yes, I accepted an offer from Salus. The program is just a better fit for me personally. I'm also wait listed at Jefferson and if I were to be accepted, I would have a tough decision to make!

Congrats on being accepted!! How was the phone interview? I have one coming up next week with Temple!

Still have not heard about my phone interview! Guess that is bad news :/
I can't believe they are still sending out phone interviews

People who have have been offered phone interviews: when were you notified that you were waitlisted?

Thanks! I'm sure you'll do great. Mine was really short and laid back. The questions aren't standard interview questions so I thought it was fun haha.

And mk092, I was waitlisted back in mid-January

I interviewed yesterday. I was waitlisted in December. Hoping we all get good news like Jane! 🙂

I was just accepted into Temple yesterday! I can't seem to find a recent forum besides this one about Temple OT. Are there any current students out there??

I just got a wait list email! Does anyone know how many they usually wait list/ the chances of getting in off of the wait list?

I'm waitlisted and have a phone interview scheduled. Have you heard anything else since being waitlisted?

Did they email you to tell you to schedule a phone interview? Also good luck!

Awesome, congrats! No, I have not heard anything since February. I corresponded via email a few times with them but I don't have any interview scheduled. It looks like in years past people got calls as late as May, so I am trying to keep the faith.

Yes, they emailed me to schedule it. First the general admissions person and then the person who I assume the interview is with emailed me.

Thanks! And good luck to you too. I have also seen that people have received calls pretty far into May. Also I made sure to ask and classes start June 20th so there's still plenty of time to get an email!

if you have been waitlisted since February and haven't heard anything yet, do they at least let you know if you were rejected? not sure how the whole waitlist process works
