Hello, i am interested in the field of podiatric medicine, and was wondering if anyone could share their experiences of the summer or winter "internship" at temple podiatry school ? ie - worthwhile, difficult to get accepted for etc. Thanks!
The purpose of the TUSPM Internship program is to allow the prospective students to learn more about Podiatry field. During your internship program, you will spend time in the Temple University Foot and Ankle Institute and Podiatrist Private Practices. There are internship students that rotate through the private practice that I recently joined. If there were surgery scheduled on the day that the internship students came, the internship students were able to observe those Podiatric Surgery cases as well. Internship students will also participate in workshops and seminars, where they will learn various Podiatric subject matters, such as Foot and Ankle Anatomy, Intro to Podiatric Biomechanics, Diabetic Foot, Wound Care, Sports Injuries, Proper Foot and Ankle Screening, Orthotics, etc... When I was a TUSPM student, I taught the Introduction to Podiatric Biomechanics seminar to the Internship students. I also helped out with the Orthotics casting workshop.
Many of the students told me that they learned a great deal about Podiatry. Several of the Internship students went on to apply to Podiatry schools. I know of several TUSPM Internship participants that went to TUSPM and Scholl. In fact, I ran into one of the TUSPM Internship participants during the residency interviews for my residency program. That student attended Scholl.
As for how selective the TUSPM Internship program, I am not sure how many people actually applies to the program. When I was at TUSPM, the Internship progarm was only offered in the Summer. However, it is also offerred during the Winter as well. If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a pvt msg.
