i do not understand how temporal arteritis can cause aortic aneurysm. as far as I am aware it has nothing to do with aorta.

It's a chronic medium to large vessel vasculitis, but I think you're reading something wrong? While an aortic aneurysm is certainly possible, more common in cranial vessels.

Temporal arteritis causes significant stenosis due to the medial inflammation. This could cause some post stenosis dilation.

Anytime you have cystic medical degeneration you risk aortic aneurysms similar to Marfans, Ehlers Danlos etc

Good integrative question! Thanks for making me think about that connection.

MK you’re right aneurysms are also found in cranial vessels ex Berry/Saccular @ Ant or post communicating arteries or Charcot @ Lenticulostriate arteries. Biggest risk factors being HT.

But aneurysms are also very common in the thoracic aorta (due to medial degeneration) and abdominal aorta (due to HT, atherosclerosis, smoking).
